Pippin, incorrectly called "of Herstal," assumed leadership of the great nobles of Austrasia around 678 in order to combat Ebroin (Mayor of the Palace) and Neustria. He led the nobles to victory at Tertry (687 - the fall of the Merovingians). He also defeated the Frisians and the Alamanni, becoming unchallenged ruler of the whole Frankish domain. He is regarded as the first of the Carolingian mayors of the palace. He and Plecrude also had Sylvius, bishop of Auchy (b. 677 in Herstal).
http://www.1911encyclopedia.org/Pippin_II offers: "Towards 678 he placed himself at the head of the great nobles in Austrasia to combat Ebroln, the mayor of the palace, and Neustria. After some reverses he gained a great victory after EbroIn's death at the battle of Tertry, not far from St Quentin. This victory made Pippin almost entire master of Gaul. He appointed one of his sons mayor of the palace of Neustria, reserving for another of his sons the mayoralty of Austrasia. He made war . . . on the Frisians and defeated their duke Radbod; and part of this people became converts to Christianity. He also defeated Willari, the duke of the Alamanni, and subdued his country. The Bavarians, too, recognized the Frankish suzerainty. The plans he had formed for reforming the church and convoking councils were interrupted by his death, which took place on the 16th of December 714."

[836] The surname Pooke (in a variety of spellings) occurs in several Devon parishes; some researchers believe it may have been Booke. "Chase Purinton and seven Generations of His descendants 1757-1999" 6th revised, November 1999 states Mary m. 5 Feb. 1630 to George who died 1647 probably at York, ME, and after his death she married John Davis in 1659; she died in 1695. It states she was born in 1613 in England. A copy of the will of George Puddington is included in the book. Her husband John Davis was a Captain and a prominent man of York, Maine who died 1691.
