This note was attached to a file in Ancestry.com in 2010:
"William Douglas, 6th Earl of Morton, (died 1606) was the son of Sir Robert Douglas and Margaret Erskine, a former mistress of James V of Scotland. Sir William's half-brother from his mother's liaison with the king was James Stewart, Earl of Moray, Regent of Scotland from 1567 until his assassination in January 1570. Sir William's cousin was another Regent of Scotland James Douglas, 4th Earl of Morton, and was closely associated with him in his career, the two men being occasionally confused in the histories. He was the custodian at Loch Leven Castle of Mary, Queen of Scots. His wife was Agnes Leslie, daughter of George Leslie, 4th Earl of Rothes, by whom he had eleven children.
"The title Earl of Morton was declared forfeit in 1581 when the 4th earl was attainted; that same year it was granted to Lord Maxwell. In 1586 the attainder was reversed and the title returned to the 4th earl's family. By the 4th earl's will Douglas succeeded in 1588 to the earldom of Morton, on the death of the 8th Earl of Angus.
"In June 1567, Queen Mary was imprisoned in Sir William's castle of Lochleven. Lady Agnes became the queen's chief female companion during her ten and a half months imprisonment, accompanying her throughout the day, and often slept in her bedchamber. It was following the birth of Agnes's child when she was recovering from her confinement, thus providing Queen Mary with greater liberty, that Mary chose to escape from Lochleven with the aid of Sir William's brother George and an orphaned cousin Willy Douglas who also lived at the castle. When Sir William learned of his royal captive's escape, he was so distressed that he attempted to stab himself with his own dagger.
"On 26 November 1554 he married Lady Agnes Leslie, Countess of Morton (born after 1541- died c.1606), a Scottish noblewoman, being the daughter of George Leslie, 4th Earl of Rothes as well as a direct descendant of King James II in her maternal line. The contract for their marriage was signed on 19 August 1554. The couple made their home at Lochleven Castle, which was a fortress situated on an island in the middle of the loch, and where his widowed mother also resided.
"Sir William and Agnes together had eleven children:
"Christian Douglas of Morton, married firstly Laurence of Oliphant, by whom she had issue; she married secondly Alexander, 1st Earl of Home.
"Robert Douglas, Master of Morton (killed by pirates in March 1585), married Jean Lyon of Glamis, by whom he had two sons, including William Douglas, 7th Earl of Morton.
"James Douglas, Commendator of Melrose, married firstly Mary Kerr, by whom he had issue; secondly Helen Scott, by whom he had issue; and thirdly Jean Anstruther, by whom he had issue.
"Sir Archibald Douglas of Kilmour (died 1649), married Barbara Forbes (born 31 January 1560), by whom he had one son.
"Sir George Douglas of Kirkness (died December 1609), married Margaret Forrester.
"Euphemia Douglas of Morton, married Sir Thomas Lyon of Auldbar, Master of Glamis.
"Lady Agnes Douglas of Morton (1574- 3 May 1607), on 24 July 1592 married as his first wife Archibald Campbell, 7th Earl of Argyll, the son of Colin Campbell, 6th Earl of Argyll and Agnes Keith, by whom she had one son and two daughters.
:Elizabeth Douglas of Morton, married Francis Hay, 9th Earl of Errol, by whom she had issue.
"Jean Douglas of Morton.
"Mary Douglas of Morton, married Sir Walter Ogilvy, 1st Lord Ogilvy of Deskford, by whom she had issue.
"Margaret Douglas of Morton, married Sir John Wemyss of Wemyss.
"Agnes's seven daughters were said to have been so beautiful that they were known as "the pearls of Lochleven".
"In 1586, the earldom of Morton which had been forfeited in 1581 following the execution and attainder of the 4th Earl of Morton for being one of Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley's murderers, returned to the Douglas family. In 1588, upon the death of Archibald Douglas, 5th Earl of Morton, Sir William became the 6th Earl of Morton. From that time onward Agnes was styled the Countess of Morton. Sir William received the charter for the earldom on 20 July 1589.
"William died sometime around the year 1606, which was the same year his wife died. Among their numerous descendants are included Diana, Princess of Wales and Camilla Parker-Bowles."

[51112] "The Ellsworth American [ Ellsworth, Maine], 24 February 2014": "Brooksville - Victor E. Dyer, 76, died Feb. 19, 2014, at St. Josephs Hospital in Bangor. He was born March 24, 1937, in Castine, son of D. Elwin and Evelyn G. (Candage) Dyer. Vic grew up in Harborside and graduated from Brooksville High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1959, after which he returned home to marry his wife, Lorraine (Noessel) Dyer. He spent most of his life as a self-employed building contractor and was widely known for his incredible talent for woodworking. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening with his wife, Lorraine, and more recently a new hobby, winemaking, which he enjoyed sharing with a thirsty neighbor. Though he rarely expressed his love for his family and friends, he made his affections known through the gifts he made with his hands. He loved the outdoors and all the bounty it offered - cutting his own wood, hunting, clamming and berrying. As he wasnt a religious man, nature was his church. Vic was an extremely hardworking man who instilled those ethics in his children. He will be dearly missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Brooksville; daughter, Evangeline and companion, Roy Sprague Jr., of Lamoine; son, Benjamin; grandson, Blaine, both of Brooksville; brother, Elmer Dyer and wife, Magda; sisters, Alice Dyer and Dorothy Bakeman; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Verna Dyer and Nellie Moores; brothers, Linwood, George, and D. Frederick Dyer."
[34111] The unverified http://myfamilytreebecameaforest.blogspot.com/2015/01/52-ancestors-week-4-eunice-foss-johnson_31.html offers: "Eunice Foss was the daughter of John and Susannah (Milliken) Foss. Her parents moved from Saco, ME, to an area that is now part of the town of Limington. The area was originally called Little Ossipee Plantation, and the first settler arrived in 1773. The Foss's moved there about seven years later in 1780 when the area was still a wilderness, and John Foss cleared some land and built a cabin. They had few neighbors scattered over many miles. Saco was about twenty miles away, and there were no roads. When Eunice's father needed to go to Saco for provisions, he walked following marked trees on Indian trails. Eunice was born about 4 years after the move on 10 July 1784. In 1804 at the age of twenty, Eunice Foss married Daniel Johnson, the son of William and Martha (Cater) Johnson. The Johnson family had also arrived in Limington about 1780. At some point, Daniel and Eunice lived in a house built and deeded to Daniel by his father, William. The house is still standing on Boothby Road in Limington, and the Johnson Cemetery is nearby. Daniel and Eunice had 13 children over the next 23 years. All but one lived to adulthood although at least two others died before Eunice. The second son, Isaiah, died at 6 days. The youngest son, Nathaniel, died at age 22 of typhus fever. Daniel and Eunice were members of the Free Will Baptist Church in Limington. Eunice's obituary says she 'obtained a hope in Christ about 1812'. In 1838 Daniel died of smallpox which he contracted while visiting family for the funeral of a relative who died of that disease. His obituary states that he died at 8 PM on June 16, and because of the contagious nature of the disease, he was buried that same evening at midnight by his family. Daniel and Eunice had been married 34 years, Eunice was about 54 years old, and there were still four children under the age of 18 at home. Sixteen years later on 3 Nov 1854, Eunice died. Here is part of her obituary. I believe it is from the Morning Star, a Free Will Baptist publication. However, I found a photocopy of it among the papers from Robert Taylor's research at the Limington Historical Society, and unfortunately I discovered that the photocopy is not the complete obituary, but stops mid-sentence. Here is what I have: In Limington, ME, Nov. 3, widow Eunice Johnson, aged 70 years and 4 months. Sister J sought and obtained a hope in Christ about 1812, was baptized by Elder Jeremiah Bullock, and joined the 1st F. W. B. church founded in Limington, with which Elder B then preached. Sister Johnson maintained her profession and church relations with consistency and fidelity, so far as we can learn up to the time the church declared its independence and withdrew from the denomination. Wishing to remain with the people of her choice, she subsequently withdrew from said church, and joined with others in constituting another and the only remaining F.W.B church in Limington. Some sixteen years since her husband, Bro. Daniel Johnson, was very suddenly snatched from her side by smallpox, when she with her large family were left nearly alone to wrap him in the habiliments of the grave, and bury him with their own hands. This was a great loss and a deep affliction, yet grace sustained her, and she was enabled to trust in him who had thus smitten her. When at home she was very constant to the prayer and conference meetings, often bearing testimony to the reality of religion and the strength. . . "
