[2498] Andrew was a soldier in the War for Independence and resided in Gorham, Maine. He m. Lewis, editor; Portland: Smith & Sale, 1903), pp. 131, 438 etc.; Mass. Sailors & Soldiers, III:664.} Andrew became dissatisfied with the ministry of the Rev. Mr. Thatcher at the time of the "New Light" excitement and he withdrew to the Free Will Baptists. While he and others were attending a Baptist convention and the women were preparing dinner for them the house burned down. He was also a Second Lt. in Capt. Jonah Washburn's Co., Col. Eben White's Regt. and marched to Rhode Island on alarm of 1 Aug 1780 - discharged 9 Aug 1780, having served 9 days. Roll sworn to at Middleborough. Capt. Henry Pierce's Co., Col. Theophilous Cotton's Regt. - enlisted 8 March 1781, discharged 31 Marchj 1781, served 26 days at Rhode Island by order of his Excellency John Hancock of 40 days expedition. Also Private, 3rd Cumberland Regt., Capt. Sam Whitmore. [Albert E. Myers has proven his lineage from Andrew as member 73197 of the Sons of the Anerican Revolution.]

[1627] Humphrey joined the barons against the King. He fought at the Battle of Evesham, 4 August 1265, "where he was taken prisoner, and died...27 October 1265" per John S. Wurts, "Magna Charta" (Phila.:1945), p. 53. He m. (2) Joane Quincy, daughter of Robert de Quincy and Helen Verch Llywellyn, on 12 Nov 1263. Doug Thompson (http://freespace.virgin.net/doug.thompson/BraoseWeb) states "Humphrey held Hay castle, Huntington castle and borough through the inheritance of Eleanor. He was a commander at Lewes and Evesham, where he was captured. He died on 27 August 1265 at Beeston Castle of wounds sustained at the battle of Evesham and was buried in Combermere, Cheshire."
