Collins, Jr. "Royal Ancestors of Magna Charta Barons" (Dallas, 1959), p. 191-2, indicates Robert as Hawyse's father and states he "was Lord of Stowell, Norton and Charlton, Somerset; Kemerton and Boddington, Co. Gloucester; Hampstred [sic] and Aldworth, Berks. He was born about 1252...."

[1796] The daughter of Baldwin V, Maud, married William the Conqueror (William I of England); she is also known as Matilda of Flanders. Baldwin V was Count 1036-67 and "greatly extended his power", obtaining from the Emperor the area between the Scheldt and Dender as an imperial fief along with the marggravate of Antwerp, Valenciennes and the Isles of Zealand. He subseqently further increased his territories by another rich accession, that of the citadel of Ghent. He was so powerful that he became regent on the death of Henry I of France in 1060. http://www.san.beck.org/AB17-FeudalEurope.html offers: "In Flanders young Baldwin married King Robert II's daughter Adela and rebelled against his father Baldwin IV, who married the daughter of Normandy duke Richard and returned with more forces that made his son submit to joint rule.
