Knighted by Edward III in 1346, he was restored to his grandfather's title as Earl of March. He fought at Crecy and was a founder of the Order of the Garter. Places and dates from Ernst-Friedrich Kraentzler, "The Ancestry of Richard Plantagenet and Cecily de Neville..." (Salt Lake City: Accelerated Indexing Systems, 1978). Wurts, "Magna Charta, Part VIII," p. 2592, states his wife was Philippa, dau. of William Montacue, Earl of Salisbury, and his wife Katherine Grandison.

Remarks at http://www.findagrave.com associated with his grave: "The Mortimer family lands and titles were lost after the first Earl of March's revolt and death by hanging in 1330, which was followed the next year by the death of Roger's father. Roger grew up with uncertain prospects, and re-acquired the family honors gradually. Around 1342, he received back Radnor, and the next year the old family baronial seat at Wigmore, Herefordshire. As a young man he distinguished himself in the wars in France, fighting at Crécy and elsewhere in the campaign of 1347. After-wards he was given the rest of his lands, he was one of the original founders and seventh Knight of the Garter, and was summoned to parliament as a baron in 1348. In 1354, the sentence passed against Mortimer's treacherous grandfather, the first earl, was reversed, and the next year he was summoned to parliament as Earl of March. Also in 1355 he received a number of important appointments, including Constable of Dover Castle and Warden of the Cinque Ports, and accompanied Edward III's expedition to France. Around this time his grandmother, Joan de Geneville, widow of the first earl, died, and Roger inherited her large estate, including Ludlow Castle, which was thereafter the Mortimer family seat and power base. In the following years he became a member of the Royal Council, and was appointed Constable at the castles of Montgomery, Bridgnorth in Shropshire, and Corfe in Dorset. In 1359, and continuing into 1360, he was Constable of Edward III's invasion of France, fighting in the failed siege of Reims and capturing Auxerre. The English forces then moved into Burgundy, where Roger died suddenly at Rouvray near Avallon."

http://jimlong.net/genealogy/edson.html offers: "Deacon Samuel Edson was born about 1612 in Fillongley, Warwickshire England where he was baptized on September 5, 1613. There is now a dispute as to exact identity of his wife. Documented by Naum Mitchell is his marriage to a Susannah Orcutt who was thought to be born around 1618 in England. New facts are documented in the following points by Joel Thomas Orcutt:

"* Fact 1- There has never been any person named Susannah Orcutt ever recorded to have married Samuel Edson. The record of marriage Mar 1, 1638, Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire, England, states Samuel Edson married Susannah Bickley.

"* Fact 2 - Susannah Bickley was the sister of Margaret Bickleymarried William Awcotte,(Orcott), May 1635, Over Whitacre, Warwickshire, England. Their son, William Awcotte/Orcott, born 1639 Mancetter, Warwickshire, England and settled in Plymouth, Mass, was the nephew of Susannah [Bickley] Edson, and not the brother, as for these many years previous supposed to have been.

"* Fact 3 - There has never been a birth record uncovered for a Susannah Orcutt born 1618 in Massachusettes or England.

"That as it is, Samuel Edson and his wife Susannah migrated to Salem, Essex County Massachusetts sometime before 1639 and then moved to Bridgewater, Plymouth County Massachusetts around the year 1650.

"Samuel Edson was highly prominent in Bridgewater where he and his son in law James Kieth, were added to the list of the fifty-four original proprietors. This list includes the historic Mayflower Pilgrim names of Miles Standish and John Alden. Mr. Edson built the first corn-mill in 1662 and was a deacon in the Puritan church between 1664 and 1692. In the year 1657 he was made a 'Freeman'and was a member of the Council of War (King Philip's War) between 1666 and 1676. He was made foreman of a jury to lay out roads 1667 and 1672. He represented the town of Bridgewater in the General Court at Plymouth 1676 and was appointed, with others, to settle the boundary line between Bridgewater and Middleboro and between Bridgewater and Taunton 1680.

"Samuel Edson recorded his will on January 15, 1688 or 1689 and died on July 19, 1692 in West Bridgewater. His estate was probated on September 20, 1692. Susannah Edson died on February 20, 1699 at West Bridgewater."/p>

[31875]

A file in Ancestry.com in 2013 offers: Either John, who farmed the manor of Ramridge 1475 - 1484, or Robert, from 1493 - 1497. It is not certain which of these two men was the father of these children, but an analysis of the evidence indicates that they were siblings.

Thomas (1465 - ????) Weyhill, England -- Thomas Noyes was mentioned with his cousins, the children of his uncle Robert Noyes, in several suits concerning the entail of the manor of Littleton in the parish of Kimpton. In a suit before the Court of Requests, it was recorded that Jone Noyes, widow [of Robert, Sr], Robert Noyes [Jr], Wyll[ia]m Noyes, John Noyes the brother of the said Robert, Nych[o]las Noyes, Thomas Noyes, Emma wife of said Robert, John Noyes son of the said Robert, Jone Noyes and Anne Noyes daughters of the said Robert leased the manor of Lytleton with appurtenances from the Abbot of the Monastery of St. Peters of Gloucester. This transaction took place 4 April 15 Henry VIII [1524] and was for the term of 61 years.

"'Thomas Noyes of Ramridge in the parish of Weyhill was taxed many times in goods 15 Henry VIII [1523/4]. By the year 1552/3 he had conveyed a substantial portion of his estate to his son Robert and grandson John.'

The record goes on to say that Thomas Noyes and all but the children of Robert were of majority. On 16 July 24 Henry VIII [1532], another deed was drawn up leasing the manor to joan Noyes the widow, Robert Noyes, Emme, John Noyes the son, Jone the daughter and Anne Noyes, and Margery, Agnes, Mary, Ede, and Cecely, daughters of Robert and Emme [born since the previous contract], to hold for a period of 70 years so long as they should live.

Nicholas St. John countered that Joan Noyes, widow, and Robert meant to defraud William, John and Nicholas Noyes, the brethren of Robert [1467 - 1524], and Thomas Noyes (cousin). Nicholas Seyntjohn had purchased the rights from various parties to the first lease. Nicholas Noyes granted their interest to him at Remrygge [Ramridge], Hampshire. It was after purchasing those rights that Nicholas Seyntjohn attempted to enter the manor forcibly. The suit in question was apparently dated 22 June 6 Edward VI [1552].

Robert Annetts, of Vyfylde [Fifield], Hants, husbandman, aged 52, deposed that he knew Robet Noyes, father of Robert Noyes, who had taken a lease of the manor of Lytylton long before the above mentioned leases. He leased the manor as Robert Noyes the father, with Jone his wife, Willm Noyes, John Noyes, Nicholas Noyes (children) Robarte Noyes now complainant and to Thomas Noyes cousin of Robarte Noyes the father. This deposition proves the relationship of Thomas Noyes to the others.

Robert (1467 - bef April 1524) -- age 57
