He was born in East Corinth, Jan 17. 1903, the son of Charles and Itol (Strout) Hanson. He was a graduate of East Corinth Academy. Mr. Hanson was owner and operator of Hanson's Barber School for many years. He was a member of the Highland Avenue United Methodist Church and former mayor of Gardiner. He was a member of the Maine State Legislature, both House and Senate, for a total of 14 years. He was an honorary member and past president of the Gardiner Lions Club, and a member of the Maine Association of Retired Persons. He was past director of Gardiner Savings Institution and a member of the East Corinth Academy Association. He was a member and past presiding officer of Hermon Lodge #32 AF & AM; Lebanon Royal Arch Chapter 18, Adoniran Council #12; Maine Commandery #1; and Marion Chapter #63, Order of the Eastern Star; all of Gardiner. He was past illustrious grand master of the Grand Council of Maine; and a member of Eusebius Conclave #3 of Auburn, and the Maine Council Order of High Priesthood. He was a charter member of Thrice Illustrious Master of Maine; and a member of the Past Officers Association 1, Pine Tree Priory #65, and Knights of the York Cross of Honor. He was past district deputy grand master of the 11th masonic district; and was member of Scottish Rite Bodies of Kennebec Valley, Maine Consistory of Portland and Kora Temple Shrine of Lewiston. Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Catherine (Wardwell) Hanson of Gardiner; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Jacqueline) Danforth of Gardiner; a grandson; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins."

It is said that a grant of land made by the town, about the year 1675, when it was much in need of a blacksmith, induced him to remove nearer to the village. She was a master in many crafts such as needlepoint, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and hooking rugs just to name a few. She was a member of the Blue Hill Baptist Church for much of her adult life and a member of the Eastern Star and Rebekahs'. She is survived by a daughter, Ailean Conary and husband Dana; grandchildren, Michael Conary and wife Margo, Janet Soden Conary and Dr. Dennis Soden, Jeaney C. Patti, Joni C. Eddins; seven great-grandchildren; niece, Sister Mary Matthew Snow (Sid) and many other nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, John F. He was born Oct. 1, 1883, at Green Briar, Upper Mahanoy Twp., a son of the late Rudolph and Sarah Snyder, and resided in the Herndon area most of his life. A retired carpenter, he was a member of the Herndon Fire Company and Zion Lutheran Church, Herndon. His wife, the former Minnie M. Bensinger, died in 1947. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George Zeiders and Mrs. Harvey Falck, both of Herndon; two sons, Ray A of Herndon and Woodrow, of Denver, Colo.; two sisters. Mrs. Verdie Knorr, of Hegins, and Mrs. Carrie Williard, of Sacramento; a brother, Willard, of Hickory Corners; 11 grandchildren and 19 greatgrandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Joseph D. Rothermel funeral home, Herndon. His pastor, the Rev. Thomas Arner, will officiate, and burial will be made in Sacramento Cemetery."
