[15232] His parents are not known. A Samuel Wardwell, b. 16 May 1643 at Boston, MA, nad a son, Eliakim. Samuel r. Andover and Salem, MA. Perhaps there is some relationship. See "Wardwell," Elizabeth Wardwell Stay (Greenfield, MA: E.A.Hall & Co., 1905), p. 7-8). "A Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England," James Savage (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1994 - reprint of 186-1862 original), Vol. 4, p. 415: "Wardwell, Eliakim, Hampton, s. of Thomas, m. Lydia Perkins, was a favorer of Quakers, so far as to show his hospitality, for wh. he was abused, as seen in the Hist. of Sewel, Lond. 4to ed. p. 330. Of his w. is told in the County Ct. rec. May 1663, the surpris. extravag. behav. in going naked into the meeting ho. at Newbury, for wh. she was whipt, and this seems to have led Bishop, in his New Eng. Judged, to more surpris. vindica. of her. See in Coffin's Hist. 66." A Wardwell site on the Internet (4/99) is: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/1508/G-point/database_nu.html Eliakim and Lydia suffered the first punishment as Quakers in the 1660's, and left the Bay Colony around 1665 to pursue their Quaker beliefs in New Jersey.
