[7931] Joan is daughter of Thomas, 5th Baron Fauconberg (b. 1345, d. 1407), and his wife Joan Bronflete. Her father and mother are both descended from Magna Carta Sureties and from Charlemagne, according to "Plantagenet Ancestry of Seventeenth-Century Colonists - Second Edition," David Faris (Boston: NEHGS, 1999), p. 15, which states that Joan was reported to be "a fool and an idiot from birth" and that her mother's father is Thomas Brounflete, Knight, of Londesborough and Weighton, Yorkshire.
