Lawrence LITCHFIELD

15-FEB-1612 - ____

Family 1 : Judith DENNIS
  1. +Remember LITCHFIELD
  2. +Josiah LITCHFIELD

INDEX

[22840] Lawrence and Judith also had Dependence, born 15 Feb 1646, Josiah, born 1647, and Experience (d. 1673). NEHGR (1848) 2:64 states that Lawrence was among the first settlers (1640) of Barnstable, MA. NEHGR (1855) 9:181 presents a genealogy of Lawrence Littlefield by the Rev. Asner Morse which reports that he was a member of the Boston Artillery Co. in 1640 and on the muster roll in 1643 at Barnstable. See James Savage, "A Genealogical Dictionary of The First Settlers of New England, Before 1692," (Boston: Little, Brown, 1860-1862), Vol. 3: "[Litchfield] LAWRENCE, Barnstable 1640, thot. to be progenit. of all of this name in N. E. rem. aft. 1643, and in 1646 is found at Scituate, had d. Dependence, b. 15 Feb. that yr.; and, perhaps, Josiah, 1647; but at B. had d. Remember (wh. Deane says, m. a Lewis of Barnstable, but I doubt his accuracy); and s. Experience, bef. ment. He a. 1650 at .S. and his wid. Judith, perhaps d. of William Dennis of Scituate, m. that yr. William Peaks." See also Philip J. and June C. Curier, compilers, "Litchfield Family Records, mainly descendants of Lawrence Litchfield of Scituate Mass, 1634," 2 vols. (Henniker, New Hampshire: by the author, 1982) for descendants. See also "Descendants of Lawrence Litchfield" at http://fergie34.tripod.com/litchfld.htm.

Richard TUPPER

[2801]

CA 1525 - 1600

Family 1 :
  1. +Henry TUPPER

INDEX

[2801] Burke's "Landed Gentry", 4th Ed (1864), p.1549: "Lineage - The Tuppers are descended from an ancient Saxon family, and according to documentary evidence, variously spelt Toupard or Toupart, Topffer, Toppfer, Topper, etc., especially in Germany, where the family still exists. From religious persecution, it removed to the Low Countries, and from thence took refuge in England, in the time of Henry VIII. Three brothers, HENRY and ROBERT TUPPER settled at Chichester, co. Sussex, and WILLIAM TUPPER settled in London, acquiring lands by letters patent from Queen Elizabeth, at Seaford, in Sussex, and had other grants from the Crown in co. Essex. Another member of the family settled at Sandwich, co. Kent, and he or his descendants emigrated, in the 16th century, to America, and became the founder of the numerous branches now existing in the various parts of the United States." {The article then follows the descendants of Henry's son, John, who settled in Guernsey and died there in 1601.} Also see Glen C. Bodie's genealogy at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gcbodie/MyTree/surnames.htm which gives the birth and death places of Richard.
