Mr. Staples had been employed by the Central Maine Power Co. for 43 years, retiring in 1970. He had served as secretary of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Rockland. He was a charter member of Knox County Fish & Game Association and was a member of Knox Lodge No. 29, Order of Odd Fellows. He is survived by his wife, Olive (Parks) Staples, of Bar Harbor; one son, The Honorable Bernard C. Staples of Bar Harbor; one granddaughter, Heather Ann Staples of Portland; a much loved sister-in-law and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Knowles of Key West, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Jeanette S. Staples of Bar Harbor; several nieces and nephews."
