[2686] William d'Aubigny (Albiniacum), Siegneur, married before 1048 a sister of Grimaldi de Plessis {per "Royal Ancestors of Magna Charta Barons," Carr P. Collins, Jr., Dallas, 1959, p. 28}; Grimaldi was the "traitor of Valognes and Val-ès-Dunes," who died in his dungeon in 1047. See "Medieval English Ancestors of Certain Americans," Carl Boyer, 3rd (Santa Clarita, CA: Carl Boyer 3rd, 2001), p. 6. See also "The Origins of Some Anglo-Norman Families," Lewis C Loyd, 1999, p. 7, and "Burke's Peerage & Baronetage, 106th Edition," Charles Mosley, Editor-in-Chief, 1999, p. 2026. The early history of the family is provided by "The Complete Peerage," surname Mowbray, new ed., vol. ix, pp. 366-7. http://genealogy.patp.us/conq/albini.aspx offers: ". . . William de Albini, the earliest known of that name, which he derived from the commune of Aubigny, near Periers, in the Cotentin, and with whom the family pedigree commences. This William married a sister of Grimoult du Plessis, the traitor of Valognes and Val-ès-Dunes, who died in his dungeon in 1047 (vol. i., pp. 25 and 31), and Wace may after all be right in styling him 'Le Botellier,' as it is probable that he held that office in the household of the Duke of Normandy. By his wife, the sister of Grimoult (I have not yet lighted on her name), he had a son, the Roger d'Aubigny aforesaid, who married Amicia, or Avitia, sister of Geoffrey, Bishop of Coutances, and of Roger de Montbrai, and is supposed by M. Le Prévost to have been with his brothers-in-law in the battle." Also see http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famille_d'Aubigny.

[6676] Theobald, of Alton, Staffordshire, was 1st Lord Verdun, M.P. 1289-90, Lord of Dulek. See Complete Peerage: Volume 12, Part 2, p. 250. By right of his wife he held o of the hundred of Bisley, co. Gloucester. http://www.pcug.org.au/~ronwells/660-9.htm states "Theobald de Verdon, Lord of Meath and Ergal, b ca 1248, Constable of Ireland 1282-4, d 1306, summoned to Parliament as Baron Verdon, m Margery (or Eleanor)."
[24210] "Jennet Gray" is listed as Joshua's wife in Brunswick, ME VR (p. 23). See "Penobscot Pioneers" (referenced under her husband) for a discussion of her identity. Her husband and sons Reuben, John, Andrew and James were among 400 men enlisting 1 April 1759 for the building of Fort Pownal on the Penobscot River, leaving Falmouth 4 May 1759 and arriving at Fort Point 17 May. The Grays enlisted for a second term expiring 24 Aug 1760 and a third term expiring 7 April 1761. After this service they settled on the Castine peninsula, later moving to Gray's Pond at the source of the Bagaduce. Cf. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~drowles/gray/10000002.htm which reports "Brunswick vital records lists the parents of Andrew, John and Reuben as Jennat. Her parents may have been Richard Elliot and Abigail Wilson of Hampton and Portsmouth, NH. Phillip Gray believed that Joshua's wife was Jane Getchell rather than Jennat Elliot." Mark E. Honey ("Castine Patriot," 8 July 2004, p. 5) reports: "Jennat Elliot Gray, wife of Joshua Gray, the pioneer, served as the resident healer or medicine woman during the British occupation. Some chose her methods over those of the British surgeon at Fort George."
