[1419] Adalric was Duke of Alsatia, Allmannia, Suevia and upper Germany; m. Bersvinda, sister of Blidechildis, wife of Childeric II, King of France. He is son of Lendisius, Major-Domo of King Theodoric II. This line is from "Royal Ancestors of Magna Carta Barons," Carr P. Collins, Jr. (Dallas: 1959), pp. 19-20 - there are apparent inconsistencies - compare "Ancestral Roots of Sixty New England Colonists," Frederick L. Weis (Lancaster, Mass.: 1950), which also states (p. 142): "Adalric (or Ethic), obtained the Duchy of Alsace, 662; d. Feb. 20, 690, head of the Alsatian House of the Ethiconides, Duke of Alsace, 662-690; m. Berswinde, aunt to Count Warinus...." Cf. http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etichon-Adalric_d'Alsace.
[5963] Jennie is dau. of Esley Talman Covert (ca. 1825-1894) and Rebecca Elizabeth Byers (d. ca. 1910), both b. in OH according to Jennie's death record.

Stephen was knighted by his uncle, Henry I; was King 1135-54 although the crown was disputed by Empress Matilda and her English partisans--in 1153 he
acknowledged her son Henry as his successor. He was a generous patron of religious foundations and a warrier of courage. He fell ill while in Dover for a conference with the Count of Flanders, died, and is buried in Faversham Abbey beside his wife. "He was a chivalrous figure - courteous, affable, kindhearted and generous, if somewhat ineffectual when it came to carrying through the schemes he had conceived with such enthusiasm. He could also be sly and shifty, and on many occasions showed a considerable lack of judgement. He made many political blunders during his reign - arresting barons at court was one - and alienated vital supporters. On
occasions his sense of chivalry led him to make mistakes that astonished and dismayed his followers, as in 1139 when he had Matilda at his mercy but gave her safe-conduct to her brother's castle at Bristol. ...In the end...he simply lacked the dominant personality essential to successful 12th-century kingship." {-"The Plantagenet Chronicles," ed. by Elizabeth Hallam (N.Y.: Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1986, p.69).} A popular account of Stephen and his times and family is "The Conquering Family," Thomas B. Costain (Garden City, NY: Doubleday, 1949).
