[27429] Christian Staub reports: "Emigrated from the Palatinate in Germany to America , probably Sept 23, 1766, on the ship Chance, Charles Smith, Master, from Rotterdam, last from Cowes. He settled in Chester County. There he married Catherian (Kulp, Kolb, or Cuthbertson??) from a family noted as a tall, hardy race of people. Subsequently he moved with his family to York County, and then to Spring Township in Perry County, and purchased the Gamber farm near St. Peters Church, part of which farm was later owned by Frederick Souder. There he spent the rest of his days. His body and that of his wife rest in the cemetery of St. Peters Church of which they both were members."

"A genealogical history of the Kolb, Kulp or Culp family, and its branches in America . . . ," Daniel Koln Cassell (Norristown, PA: Morgan R. Willis, 1895), p. 17: "Martin Kolb, b. 1680. Came to America and settled at Germantown in 1707. Married
Magdalena, daughter of Isaac Van Sintern and Neeltje Claasen, and great-great-grand-daughter of Jan de Voss, Burgomaster in Flanders, in 1550. Martin Kolb moved to Skippack in 1709, and was ordained to the ministry in the Mennonite Church and served at Germantown, and at Skippack as soon as an organization was established there. His signature also appears on the deed of the Mennonite Church at Germantown as a witness. He was one of the first trustees, with others, who held the property of the Mennonite Church at the Skippack in trust for many years. He died in 1 76 1.
