[20169] Arnold's Army Enlistment Record 6 July 1942 records: height 70 inches and weight 218 pounds - he enlisted as a private - showed four years of high school education and occupation as machinist or railway mechanic (wish special emphasis on engines). An undated clipping in family notes: Arnold E. Echenagucia died at his home in Boston - age 54 - veteran of W.W. II, air force staff sgt. - wife Margaret Campbell. The 1891 Boston, MA city directory shows Arnold r. 223 Park Drive - Apt. 25; the 1947 city directory shows him in this same apartment. His widow, Margaret, r. in this apartment in the 1962 and 1970 city directories of Boston, and was employed in the accounting department of S. S. Pierce Co. in Boston; in the 1981 directory she r. 250 Spring St., Boston (last listing of her in Boston). A Social Security death record for Margaret states she was b. 27 July 1905 and d. in March 1986, r. Boston or nearby W. Roxbury, MA.

See http://members.tripod.com/~Scott_Michaud/Haskell-history.html which reports "He came to Salem, Massachusetts, in 1635 aboard the 'Elizabeth' with his stepfather, mother and brothers. He moved from Salem to Gloucester in 1643. He was a Puritan, and according to Americana Illustrated (American History Magazine), he was a 'mariner, engaged in fishing, but found time to attend to much of the town's business, serving as selectman several years, and was represenative to the General Court six times in twenty years. In 1661 he was appointed lieutenant of the 'trayned band' and was later captain. He was one of the officers who refused in 1688 to assess the taxes levied by Sir Edmund Andros, and was fined by the Superior Court at Salem. The repudiated Governor, Andros, was finally driven out of New England by the indignant victims of his tyranny. In 1681 William Haskell joined with others in a petition to the King praying for the interposition of the crown to prevent the disturbance of title to Gloucester lands by Robert Mason, who made claim thereto. He was one of the first two known deacons of the first church at Gloucester...' William married Mary Tybbott, the daughter of Walter Tybbott, on November 16, 1643, in Gloucester. Mary was born on November 6, 1628, in Chepstow, Wales, England. She died on August 16, 1693, in Gloucester, and William died four days later."
