[33339] Paul m. Elizabeth Peters (b. 1790). Cf. www.averillproject.com. Ancestry.com offers: "Averill Name Meaning - Reaney and Wilson cite 13th- and 14th-century examples such as Richard Averil, which they associate with the name of the month (see April; the Old French word Avrill was taken into Middle English as Averil before being altered under Latin influence to April). As a North American surname, it may be a habitational name from Haverhill in Suffolk, which is probably named from Old English hafri oats + hyll hill. The traditional English pronunciation of this place name was Have-rill. Compare Avery."

[13296] He is perhaps confused with another John Freeman, q.v. Find A Grave memorial 182168786 offers: "John Freeman was one of the original proprietors (landholders) of Sudbury Plantation in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, when it was founded in 1638. He emigrated from England, where he was born (exact location being questioned), traveling with his first wife Mary (Burt?) and two children on the ship 'Abigail.' They departed Plymouth, England, on Jun 4, 1635, and arrived in Boston on October 8, 1635. Confusing to genealogists is the fact that there were three passengers named John Freeman on that voyage. A quick view of various on-line family trees confirms this. Our John Freeman was 35 and traveling with his son, John, aged 9. Also on board was John Freeman, aged 8, son of Edmond Freeman (F-a-G #6127309) who would become an important member of the Sandwich, Mass community. Also confusing is the fact that Edmond had a brother, John (1604/5-1628), but he never left his home in Pulborough, Sussex, England. Recent DNA evidence shows that the families are not the same. A few years after arriving in Sudbury, Mary Freeman died. John then married Elizabeth Noyes of Sudbury, daughter of Peter Noyes (F-a-G #88452828), in 1643 and had three children with her, before he in turn died about 1648. Elizabeth then married Josiah Haynes of Sudbury, son of Walter Haynes (F-a-G #88450597). They had nine children together. The Haynes and Noyes families were prominent members of the Sudbury community for years."
