[30048] "Carlisle Evening Herald, 10 July 1912," p. 1: "Joseph Shughart died at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C .C. Miller, 604 North West street, at the age of 79 years and 10 months. Death was due to heart failure caused by pleurisy. Mr. Shughart was born in Dickinson township, and during the greater part of his life was a farmer. He resided principally in Dickinson and Penn townships, but spent a few years in Frankford. For the past three months he has been a resident of Carlisle. He was a reader of The Herald for more than 60 years. Surviving him are seven children, Mrs. C. C. Miller, Carlisle; George W., of Middlesex; Frank J., of Dickinson; Joseph, of Frankford; Harvey W., of near Carlisle; Elmer, of Frankford, and Wilson, of near Salem Church. The funeral will be held Friday, meeting at his late residence at 9 o'clock. Services will be held in the Frankford Brick Church and internment will be made in the graveyard adjoining."
