[5419] Find A Grave Memorial 8600778 offers: "Also known as Sophie of Simmern or Sophie of the Palatine. Born as the twelfth child of the "Winter King" Friedrich V, Elector of the Palatine, and Elisabeth Stuart, sister of King Charles I of England, at The Hague where her parents had taken refuge. All her life she felt more as an English than a German citizen. She spoke five languages fluently, but preferred English. She was supposed to marry Georg Wilhelm of Lüneburg and they were engaged in 1657 while Georg and his brother Ernst August stayed in Heidelberg for a while. The brothers traveled to Venice for the Carnival where Georg became sick, (with a not closer described illness) and which allegedly made it impossible for him to marry her. He convinced his brother to take his position. They signed a contract in which Georg swore to never marry and declared Ernst August and Sophies children as his heirs. After this treatment she developed a aversion against Georg Ludwig and later Eleonore d'Olbreuse, his wife. Her son Georg Ludwig inherited this aversion which influenced the relationship with his wife Sophie Dorothea. Sophie's marriage was happy in the beginning, but became colder with the years. Seven of her children survived their childhood. The younger sons were excluded from succession. Following the Hanoverian house law all sons were equal heirs which would have meant to divide the country several times. Three of these sons died in different wars. Their only daughter, Sophie Charlotte married the Elector Friedrich III of Prussia. Sophie was the intellectual and cultural center of the court of Hanover. She had a close friendship with Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, who was the court Liberian and Privy Counselor and already had a world wide reputation as a philosopher, physicist and theologian. She exchanged many letters with Raugräfin Luise von Degenfeld, the second wife of her brother Karl Ludwig. The letters she exchanged with her beloved niece Elisabeth Charlotte, Duchess of Orleans, described the life at the two courts and are a source for many historians. In the Act of Settlement from 1701 all catholic members of the house of Stuart were excluded from succession and Sophie became the only heir. She died during a walk in the park of Herrenhausen. Queen Anne died on August 1st, 1714 and Sophies son Georg Ludwig became George I of Great Britain. (bio by: Lutetia)"

Norman served as a First Lt. in the U. S. Army during World War II. His obituary: "Norman Capen Dunbar, 91, passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, in the company of family in Blue Hill. He was the father of Bruce Dunbar of New Salem, MA. Norman was born Aug. 5, 1921 in Concord, MA, to Edward Capen and Evelyn (Shattuck) Dunbar, and grew up in Flemington, NJ. He attended Rutgers University, graduating with a BS in mechanical engineering. Enrolled in ROTC, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and served in the Air Transport Command in China, Burma and India. After the war, he married Jacqueline Pinney, a marriage of over 65 years.
Norman was a 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite, past member of Darcy Lodge in Flemington, N.J., serving as Master in 1955. He was a present member of the Marine Lodge of Deer Isle. Norman's love of his Scottish heritage led him to become a spirited bagpiper, serving as pipe major for the Scots Highland Pipes and Drums of Ashby. Norman was in the steel and wire industries most of his life. He was an excellent carpenter and avid gardener. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline of Sunset; their sons, John and his wife, Cynthia of Sargentville, and Bruce and his wife, Sue of New Salem, MA, and grandsons, Gregory and Cameron."

Kirby, "The Earliest English Kings," p. 126: "Ine appears as a hard-headed, resilient leader in rigorous pursuit of his own interests. His kingdom had come some considerable way from the remote and backward region it had been at the beginning of the seventh century." Ina completed the reconquest of the kingdom, extending its frontiers to the west and defeating the Britons of Cornwall and the King of Sussex. History credits Ina with foundation of the port of Southampton. He abidcated and died en route to Rome.

[50512] "Bangor Daily News [ Banor, Maine], 29 April 2022": "Calais - Laverne Sylvester Redding left this world on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, after a long two-year battle with fallopian tube cancer. Laverne was born to Paul E. and Helen Hodgdon Sylvester on January 10, 1953, at Blue Hill Hospital. Laverne graduated from George Stevens Academy, class of 1971, and went on to get a BS in health, physical education and recreation from the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI), graduating in 1975. She went on to teach at Madison High School in the 1975-1976 school year. She worked for the Calais School Department, Calais Recreation Department and numerous banking institutions until starting work for the Department of Health and Human Services, where she worked for almost 28 years, retiring in December 2016. Laverne also helped her husband, Dana, as an assistant coach, fondly known to the girls as 'team mom.' Laverne met the love of her life, Dana Redding, while at UMPI. They married on April 24, 1976, and settled in Calais, Maine, where they started their family. Laverne was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Leon and Prudence Sylvester; maternal grandparents, Walter and Flora Hodgdon; her parents, Paul and Helen Sylvester; her sister, Leona Gray; her mother-in-law, Barbara Redding; and grandmother-in-law, Grammy Dot Miles and husband, Dana Miles. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dana; her daughter, Heather and husband, Randy White, of Calais; son, Jason and wife, Julie, of Red Beach; and daughter, Brandi and husband, Chris Chase, of Hampden. She leaves behind the joys of her life, her 'Six Pack' - grandsons, Caleb, Braden and Noah White, Turner Redding, and Coleman and Cooper Chase. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Sylvester and her two daughters; sister, Louise, with husband, William Holyoke, and her two sons; and her sister, Leona Gray's three children. She is survived by her in-laws, Mike Redding and his two sons; Paula Hill and her three daughters; Jeff and Mary Jean Redding and their two daughters; and sister-in-law, Donna Redding. She also leaves behind her father-in-law, Paul Redding and Outlaw, Roxanne Redding; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She fondly leaves behind many dear cousins and relatives."
