(2) Alice, sister and coheir of William de Tosney. Roger was the Sheriff of Suffolk and Norfolk and founder of the Priory of Thetford (or Whetford) in 1103 where he is buried. Roger held six lordships in Essex and a hunderd and seventeen in Suffolk beside many manors in Norfolk. http://www.packrat-pro.com/bin.htm states "Robert was in the service of William Werlenc, or the Warling, Comte de Mortain, poor, requested permission from his lord to obtain wealth by departing to Apulia under. Werlenc assured Robert he would be wealthy soon in Normandy. Robert requested an audience with Duke William (WTC), revealed Werlenc's statement. Werlenc was banished and Mortain was given to William's half brother, Robert who became Robert de Mortain. Robert Bigod's was in service to Duke William there after and his son served at Senlac. In 1103, by the advice of King Henry, Maud the Queen, Hubert Bishop of Norwich, and his own wife, the Lady Adeliza, one of the daughters and co-heirs of Hugh de Grentmesnil, seneschal of England, he founded the Abbey of Thetford, in the county of Norfolk, and, dying in 1107, was buried there." [2499] See "Medieval English Ancestors of Certain Americans," Carl Boyer III (Santa Clarita, CA, 2001), p. 113. Waltheof II, Earl of Northumberland, Huntingdon and Northampton and Lord of Hallamshire, Wolthamstow and Toteenhard; married Lady Judith Lens who was the King's cousin and who founded the Nunnery of Elstow. {Cf. ID2151 - apparently there is a discrepancy in fathers; information for ID2614 from "Royal Ancestors of Magna Charta Barons," by Carr P. Collins, Jr., Dallas, 1959, p. 143 - not always reliable.} Waltheof II was beheaded on St. Giles' Hill near Winchester. Cf. http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waltheof_de_Northumbrie.

[30188] A pdf file in jorandby.net/genealog presents much information on Gustav and his descendants, and offers: "The surname Slora comes from the Slora Mill (Slora Mølle) in the Blaker local parish in the Sørum commune of the Norwegian county Akershus. . . . Gustav's wife Anna and their children -- who all emigrated in 1882 and 1886 -- appear in the 1865 Norwegian census when they were living on the Slora Gard (farm). Note the word "Kværn" in the census table below. (Our English word "quern" is cognate; it denotes a primitive hand-driven stone mill. Strictly speaking, the bottom stationary stone is the quern while the mobile stone is the handstone. In Adams County, Wisconsin, Olea Jorandby, Rosanna (Jorandby) Slorahn's aunt, married Gunnerius Embretsen Bjørnebyqvern, which means that the farm his family came from in Solør in Norway had a mill on it, and they were the millers. In America they dropped the "qvern" and used the name Bjorneby.)" See http://www.sorum.kommune.no and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akershus.
