Between September 1402 and 1415 he was held prisoner by the English, when he was finally exchanged for the Earl of Northumberland. He fought in the Battle of Homildon Hill on 14 September 1402 at Homildon Hill, Scotland, where he was taken prisoner. He held the office of Regent [Scotland] between 1420 and 1424. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Duke of Albany [S., 1398] on 3 September 1420. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Earl of Fife on 3 September 1420. He succeeded to the title of Earl of Monteith on 3 September 1420. On 25 March 1425 he was attainted and forfeited all of his honours."
