[2179] See "Medieval English Ancestors of Certain Americans," Carl Boyer III (Santa Clarita, CA, 2001), pp. 110-111. http://users.codenet.net/dterhune/blkmtn/brecknock.html reports: "Roger de Pitres and his brother Durand were among the administrators of Earl William FitzOsbern of Hereford. They came from an estate in Normandy which Earl William had acquired from marriage into the Tosney family. Like many young men of the time, the brothers left their home to seek adventure." http://www.softdata.co.uk/gloucester/norman.htm offers: "Roger de Pitres was appointed Sheriff of Gloucestershire and Constable of Gloucester Castle. This family dominated Gloucester during the next few decades." http://siteure.free.fr/457.htm states "Roger de Pitres participa à la bataille d'Hastings, en 1066." http://hps.infolink.com.br/delamare states "Norman Fitz Guillaume de la Mare, who appears in Domesday and lived circa 1025, was a great feudal Lord in Normandy and the owner of the de la Mare Castle. He married the daughter of Roger de Pitres, Viscount of Gloucester. Several de la Mare brothers joined in the invasion of England under William The Conqueror in 1066. Norman´s sons, Guillaume, Hugue, Ralph and Roger, are the first members of the clan in England , although other branches followed their steps throughout the centuries." Roger is thought to be the builder of St. Ewan's Church in Bristol, England - see http://www.le.ac.uk/elh/grj1/bristol/bewan.html.
