She graduated from Castine High School in 1929 and studied at Massachusetts General and McLean Hospitals, then worked at Castine Community Hospital. She then took a one year program at Simmons College, receiving a certificate in public health nursing. In 1942 she became a P.H.Nurse for the State Bureau of Health, stationed at Old Town. In 1948 she became school nurse in Bangor (until 1972).
