[23701] Johann Friedrich I "der Grossmütige", Elector of Saxony in 1532 , was captured by the emperor in 1547 and deprived of the electorate, which was awarded to his cousin along with Wittenberg, because of his adherence to the Reformation. Johann is son of Johann "der Beständige", Elector of Saxony in 1525, and his first wife, Sofie of Mecklenburg . For his ancestry, see http://www.friesian.com/germany.htm which also reports: "When the Emperor Charles V defeated the Elector John Frederick and the Protestant League of Schmalkalden at Mühlberg in 1547, he transfered the Electorate to Maurice of the 'Albertine' line, where it remained, leading to the Kingdom of Saxony."
