Geoffrey was Treasurer of King Henry II and built Kenilworth.
"Généalogie de Carné" at http://a.decarne.free.fr/gencar/dat399.htm states that "Guillaume chambellan héréditaire de Normandie" (b. after 1128, d. 1193 in Palestine) is son of Renebault de Tankerville and Agnes Stigand and that he m. ca 1140 Théophanie de Penthièvre (b. ca. 1115 to Étienne de Penthièvre, comte de Tréguier, and Havoise, comtesse de Guingamp) - this appears to be a brother of Geoffrey, who is not listed in "Généalogie de Carné".
http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/CLINTON.htm offers: "The family of Clinton is of Norman origin, and settled in England at the Conquest. They took their name from the lordship of Climpton, in Oxfordshire. Roger Climpton or Clinton was Bishop of Coventry from 1228 to 1249. John De Clinton was summoned to Parliament at the first of Edward I, by the title of Baron Clinton of Marstock. His second son, William, was Lord High Admiral of England in 1333, and created Earl of Huntingdon in 1337. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Lords of Clinton distinguished themselves in the wars of Edward III and Henry V and VI. Edward, the ninth Lord Clinton, Lord High Admiral of England, was created Earl of Lincoln in 1572. His successor, Henry, second Earl of Lincoln, was one of the commissioners on the trial of Mary, Queen of Scots."
See "Sirnet Genealogy" for its proposal concerning the ancestry of Geoffrey at http://www.stirnet.com/HTML/genie/british/cc4aq/clinton01.htm. Cf. http://www.boazfamilytree.com for agreement with this proposal.
http://www.nottshistory.org.uk/Brown1896/clumber.htm offers: "Geoffrey de Clinton, with whom Dugdale commences his history of the family, was Lord Chamberlain and Treasurer to Henry I., and afterwards Justice of England. Foss, in his Judges, says he was a witness to the Kings charter to Westminster Abbey. He built the castle of Kenilworth, and gave all the lands he had there, except those attached to the castle and park, to endow the priory of Augustinian monks which he had founded. His possessions extended through no less than fourteen counties."

[15879] George Walton administered his estate. The Ordinary [inn] known as The Anchor was deeded to Edward 12 July 1665, and inherited by his wife Martha when Edward died. Edward had an acre on Great Island, served on the jury, etc. "Immigrants to America Appearing in English Records," Frank Smith, p. 14, shows Edward and Martha on ship from England in 1676 (matching the baptism of son John in England in March, 1676). Edward was likely a seaman before he became an inn/tavern keeper.
