[7901] John graduated with honors from the Loysville Academy. He enlisted in Capt. David Tressler's Co. along with other boys from the Academy and served in Co. H, Regiment 133 during the War Between the States. About 1862 he bought an old log store at Bridgeport, and 1864-66 built a new house and store. In 1884 John became a director of the Farmers and Mechanics Mutual Fire Insurance Co., and in 1890 was elected Secretary. He was a Justice of the Peace, ran for General Assemblyman in 1888, and helped organize the phone company and a bank.
