[30037] "The Selinsgrove Times-Tribune [Selinsgrove, PA], 23 November 1933," p. 1: "George D. Witmer, 49, died a beautiful death last evening, immediately after leading, with his rich baritone vcice, a group of friends in the singing of 'Smiles'. Members of the local Masonic Lodge, Lafayette No. 194, and their wives, numbering more than 200 persons, assembled in the basement of the First Lutheran Church for dinner and a social evening. After Mr. Witmer had led the singing he took his seat at the banquet table beside his wife and leaning over her shoulder, as if to speak to her, expired. He was immediately carried from the banquet hall to the Sunday school room on the floor above, where physicians pronounced him dead. Mr. Witmer had been suffering with indigestion for several days, but was net considered seriously ill. An acute attack of that ailment is attributed as the cause of his death. George D. Witmer was born at Salem, April 4, 1885, the son of the late George Miller Witmer and his widow, Mrs. Sarah Amelia Moyer Witmer, of Salem.
