https://njscuba.net/shipbuildinghistory/us-comm-small/stonington.html offers: "Stonington ME - Stonington Yacht Basin was started by George, Cecil and Sheridan Billings in 1936. It was active in WWII and continued to build boats after the war. It went bankrupt in the 1960s but was bought and reopened by Sheridan's son Dick. It changed its name to Billings Diesel & Marine, Inc., and continues in business today, although it hasn't built a boat recently. Visit the company at billingsmarine.com. The yard has a spectacular location, on Moose Island, just to the west of Stonington. See it from the air on Google here. Note that there is a similarly named yard, Stonington Boat Works, in Stonington CT: this yard is not that yard." This article then lists the many ships built in this yard.

In 2019 https://blog.mainevets.org/ruth-wardell-mvh-bangor-veteran-stories-usn-1 offers: 'Ruth Colby Wardwell was born in March 1925, on her family's farm in Bucksport, Maine. After graduating from Bucksport High School she attended Bryant & Stratton College, graduating in 1944. After college, Ruth went to work at Emery and Conant Wool Company in Boston. As World War II raged in Europe and the Pacific, Ruth did her part by giving blood and buying war bonds. Soon that wasnt enough for Ruth - she wanted to serve, and she decided to become a Navy WAVE. Following training at Hunter College in New York, she was sent off for four months to Great Lake Illinois. Then came an assignment to Chelsea Naval Hospital in Massachusetts. At the naval hospital, Ruth helped with recuperating sailors and Marines. "I was proud to be able to contribute," she remembers. "It was a very rewarding experience for me." While she was at Chelsea she received word that her boyfriend, William Wardwell, who was serving in the Army, was ill and hospitalized at nearby Fort Devens. It was feared that he might never walk again. As soon as she could arrange it, Ruth went to visit Bill - their first time together in three years. She found him weak, but thankfully, beginning to walk again. As the war neared its end, Bill was sent to recover at his family home in Castine, Maine. A long-distance romance ensued until Bill proposed and Ruth returned to Maine to be married. Together they raised six children. As their children grew older Ruth became a very active 4-H leader and Sunday School teacher. In 1984, she returned to school to become a Certified Nursing Assistant and later worked at the Ellsworth Convalescent Center. Ruth also applied her healing skills in her own family, serving as a dedicated caregiver to her father and husband when they became seriously ill. "The strength in me was God given," Ruth says. "It was gathered from the courage these men showed me when in great pain." Ruth is greatly admired by those who know her for raising a wonderful family and spending so much of her life helping others.'
"The Ellsworth American, 7 June 2021": "Ruth Irene (Colby) Wardwell, 96, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021. She was born on March 10, 1925, in Bucksport, the daughter of Byron E. and Rachel (Potter) Colby. She served in the United States Navy WAVES in 1945 and 1946 and worked as a secretary and CNA. She was a member of the East Bucksport United Methodist Church, the Duck Cove Extension, the Duck Cove Community Club and the Orland Chapter of Eastern Star. Ruth is survived by her children, Dana Wardwell and wife, Paulette, of Bucksport, Frank Wardwell and partner Elaine White of Bangor and daughter-in-law Patti Rump of Bucksport; grandchildren, Kristen Stevens of New Brunswick, Canada, Jason Andrews of Ontario, Canada, Susan Satterfield of Eddington, Mark Wardwell of Bucksport, Paul Wardwell of North Carolina, Gregory Wardwell of Germany, Nicholas Wardwell of North Carolina, Kelsey Wardwell of Bucksport, Keagan Wardwell of Lamoine, Coty Wardwell of Washington, D.C., Casey Wardwell of Holden along with 17 great-grandchildren and one sister, Elsie Mann of Dexter. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, William 'Bill' Wardwell; two daughters, Joyce Andrews and Ellen McElvain, and two sons, James Wardwell and Timothy Wardwell."
