[7176] http://www.geocities.com/janet_ariciu/theBrucefamily.html states she m. Sir Walter Oliphant and remarks: "The marriage of Sir Walter Oliphant to Elizabeth Bruce is proven by a document known as the Charter of Gask, dated 28 Feb 1364, in which King David II, son of Robert the Bruce, bestows all the lands in Gask and a Barony upon Walter Olyphaunt and his spouse Elizabeth, our beloved sister. The original Charter was stolen from the Charter Chest at Gask and was missing for 40 years, but was recovered by Laurence Oliphant in 1786. It was registered in the Books of Council and Session as a Probative Writ on 5 May, 1795 by Mr. John Pattison, advocate, and Alexander Robinson, writer, Edinburgh, Scotland. There are other documents which also confirm the relationship of Elizabeth to David II. One of them is a confirmation of the lands of Newtyle and Kinprony, granted at Edinburgh the same day as the Charter of Gask, by King David II, in which the King comfirms the lands to the said Walter and Elizabeth, his spouse, the kings sister. Another charter on the same day conveys to Walter Olyfaunt and Elizabeth his spouse, the kings beloved sister the lands of Turynys and Dromy, in Forfar."

[938] See "The Great Migration Begins" (Boston: NEHGS, 1995), Vol. 1, pp. 383-389. George came from Shrewsbury, England to Falmouth, Maine in 1630; was Representative to the General Court of Mass., 1663. See "New England Historic & Gen. Register," C102:169; "Brackett Gen.," by Herbert Bracket (Washington, D.C., 1907). George emigrated via Plymouth, England. His father, John, was a linen draper "of Stogursey, Somersetshire." {-also see articles in "N. E. Hist. & Genealogical Register," 102:169-177; 140:180-181 - giving data on his four marriages and his legal troubles in England.} George was one of the earliest inhabitants of present-day Portland, Maine; was residing at the mouth of the Spurwink River, Cape Elizabeth, 1630, where he claimed 2,000 acres which Sir Ferdinand Gorges had promised him as a condition of his emigration from England -- but he was ousted from this claim and located where the business section of the city stands today (near Hancock and Fore Streets); he led the struggle for an independent colony in Maine called Ligonia, and for 12 years served as its chief of state (until Massachusetts' claims prevailed in 1658); he was in and out of court for many years trying to assert his property claims; he served in the General Court and other offices. He was a "roundhead" and struggled with the Episcopalians. He died past age 90 and was probably past age 55 when he emigrated from England. See "Penobscot Pioneers...Bray...," Philip Howard Gray (Camden: Penobscot Press, 1992), pp. 46-47. Also "History of Portland...," William Willis (Portland: Bailey & Noyes, 1865) on the web at http://www.usigs.org/library/books/me/Portland1865/Portland000.htm - cf. "Cleeve Family Registry," referenced under John Price, George's father-in-law (this volume reports "In 1618 at least, George Cleeve was employed by Thomas Lewis at the Sextry, or Sextree, an Inn which is still standing in Shrewsbury. Cleeve remained at Shrewsbury at least until 1624 and probably until he emigrated in 1630, although one source says his home when he emigrated was in Plymouth (Devonshire, Eng.). George Cleeve sailed from Bristol, England, April 1630 aboard the Swift, bound for Sace and Casco Bay, Maine."

{See Crispin, "Falaise Roll" (London, 1938), pp.186-87.} For Rosele's ancestry, cf. http://www.friesian.com/italia.htm
In 2007 http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands offers: "Rozala di Ivrea ([950/960]-7 Feb or 13 Dec 1003, bur Gent, church of the Abbey de Saint-Pierre du Mont-Blandin). The 'Annales Elnonenses Minores' record the marriage [undated between 950 and 968] of 'Arnulfus iunior' and 'filiam Beregeri regis Susannam'. Regino records that two of the daughters (unnamed) of ex-King Berengario were brought up in the imperial palace by the empress after being brought to Germany. One of these two daughters was presumably Rozala, bearing in mind that the emperor arranged her marriage. According to Nicholas, Count Arnoul II married Rozala di Ivrea when he reached the age of majority in 976 but the source on which this is based has not been located. The 'Genealogica Comitum Flandriæ Bertiniana' names 'filiam Berengeri regis Langobardorum, Ruzelam quæ et Susanna' as wife of Comte Arnoul. Her marriage was presumably arranged by Emperor Otto to increase his influence in Flanders at a time when the Lothaire IV King of the West Franks was asserting his own influence in the county. The 'Vita Sancti Bertulfi' names 'Rozala filia . . . Berengarii Regis Italiæ', specifying that 'post mortem Arnulfi [Balduini filius] principis, Roberto Regi Francorum nupsit et Susanna dicta'. Hugues 'Capet' King of France arranged her second marriage to his son and heir, apparently as a reward for Flemish help when he seized power in 987. She adopted the name Suzanne on her second marriage, and was given Montreuil-sur-Mer by the County of Flanders as her dowry. Richer records that King Robert repudiated his wife "Susannam . . . genere Italicam eo quod anus esset" but refused to allow her to retake her castle at Montreuil, whereupon she constructed another nearby. She returned to Flanders after she was repudiated by her second husband, and became one of the principal advisers of her son Count Baldwin IV. France retained Montreuil-sur-Mer. The 'Annales Elnonenses Minores' records the death in 1003 of 'Susanna regina'. The Memorial of 'regina Susanna' records her death 'VII Feb'. - m firstly ([968]) Arnoul II le Jeune Count of Flanders, son of Baudouin III joint Count of Flanders & his wife Mechtild of Saxony [Billung] ([961/62]-30 Mar 987, bur Ghent). - m secondly (988 before 1 Apr, repudiated [991/92]) as his first wife, Robert Associate-King of France, son of Hugues Capet King of France & his wife Adelais dAquitaine (Orléans ([27 Mar] 972-Château de Melun 20 Jul 1031, bur église de l'Abbaye royale de Saint-Denis). He succeeded his father in 996 as Robert II "le Pieux" King of France."
