[55385] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 30 December 2023: "Old Town - On December 17, 2023, Banton Foster Sr., a long-time resident of Old Town, beloved father, and dear friend, died in a house fire. He was seventy-one. Born in Nashua, New Hampshire, on August 29, 1952, to Walter Foster Jr. and Hazel (Campbell) Foster, Banton was a proud Mainer, avid outdoorsman, and fantastic gardener. He was always up for an adventure. His keen sense of humor and open mindedness endeared him to many. His children fondly recall spontaneous cross-country ski excursions, his love of the Beatles, a soft spot for animals, and his generous spirit. He once chased down Mister Rogers - a speaker at his oldest daughter's college graduation - so his other kids could meet the iconic, kind-hearted role model. He is survived by his six children, Chelsea Henderson, Nathan Henderson, Sarah Foster, Banton Foster Jr., Meghann Foster, and Flaherty Foster; daughters-in-law, Heather Henderson and Morgan Chosnyk; six grandchildren; brother, Timothy Foster; nephew, Walter H. Foster IV; and nieces, Joanna Dall and Allison Hall. He was predeceased by his parents and three older siblings."

(1) Agnes Borrowe and they had William (bapt. 16 June 1575) and Alice (bapt. 20 March 1578). With his second wife, Elizabeth, he had Stephen and Susanna (bapt. 24 June 1584). All four children were baptized at Upper Clatford, Hampshire. Ancestry.com offers: "Hopkins Name Meaning - English: patronymic from Hopkin. The surname is widespread throughout southern and central England, but is at its most common in South Wales. Irish (County Longford and western Ireland): Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Oibicín, itself a Gaelicized form of an Anglo-Norman name. Michael McNally was probably Scotch-Irish, born in Pennsylvania around 1752. His parents are possibly from Cork, Ireland and arriving in Philadelpia, PA. with the family settling in Pennsylvania (possibly Frankford Philadelphia or Cumberland? areas).
Family lore says McNally was able to read and write, enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Regiment of Artillery as a gunner on May 13, 1777 (he is 25 at the oldest or 11 at the youngest). It is said that his name appears on a roster of Capt. Ronon's Company of Artillary.This is undocumented as of yet, and the only artillery unit that seemed to fit was organized 8 February-25 March 1776 at Philadelphia as Captain Bernard Romans' Continental Artillery Company. The At the time of his enlistment, this unit was this was Captain Gibb Jones's Company the Regiment was assigned to the Middle Army Department, then Reassigned to the Highland Department in Nov. 1778. The Company was redesignated 16 April 1780 as Captain Jeremiah Freeman's Continental Artillery Company then consolidated in January 1781 with Captain Jonas Simonds' Company, 3rd Continental Artillery Regiment, and consolidated unit designated as Captain Jonas Simonds' Company.Eight companies made Proctor's 4th Continental Artillery Regiment, all from Eastern PA. Elements of this regiment served in the following: Trenton-Princeton, Northern New Jersey, Defense of Philadelphia, Valley Forge, Philadelphia-Monmouth, New Jersey 1778, Iroquois 1779, Yorktown, and Greene's Campaign.
The last appearance of Michael is in reference to the revolution is Jan. 1, 1781, when he received depreciation pay.
Many of his stories of army life are still current among his descendants, who say that after leaving the army he served onan armed vessel, the type is not known, however it should be noted that there was a Pennsylania Navy, all volunteers, that guarded Philadelphia and the Delaware River from 1775 until 1783. Many members of the Pennsylvania Navy were entitled to and received Depreciation pay certificates. Navy veterans were not eligible for grants of Donation Land.
Circa 1784 he moved into the Kennebec, Maine area, it is not known why he left Pennsylvania.
In 1785 he married Susan Pushaw (Pochard) b. 1768, daughter of Abraham and Marguarette (Parris), of Fairfield.It is said that on the banks of the Sebasticook river about a mile east of Clinton, he built a log cabin for his family. There is a McNally Road that runs east of Clinton for a mile and ends at the river.Michael and Susan had nine children; Betsey, Nancy, John, Lucy, Arthur, William, Isabel, Susan and James. His wife, Susan, died in 1811.
Family lore has it that McNally fought in the War of 1812 and marched to war at the age of 58 Captain Daniel Crossman's thirty-fourth Regiment, U.S. Infantry and wounded in the collarbone at Armstrong, Lower Canada, in September 1813, under the command of Lt. Col. Storrs and received a pension for service in the war.
Information on enlistment in the War of 1812 is documented. A Michael McNelley volunteered on May 17, 1813 for one year by Lt. Springer. This one year enlistment is extended and documented in U.S. Army, Register of Enlistments, 1798-1914. Here is the information contained on that document:

Feb.28 to April 30 /14 present. Capt Benj. Polands, Co. Book 1814_1815. & M.R. July 31.1814 present jd. at Plattsburgh, July 13.1814, from Lt. Wortons (or Norton's?) detch't. D.R. Feb'y 16 I.R.Feb'y 28 & April 20. & M.R. June 28.1815 present Book 322. Discharged at Plattsburgh, July 20.1815.Term enp'd. (book 668) Regimental Commander is Col. (J.D.) Learned.
The U. S. Pension Rolls of 1840 give him as "aged 88 years" and living with his son Arthur McNelly.
Michael re-married around 1830 to Mrs. Jane (Varnum) Harriman, of Pittsfield. There were no children by this marriage.The 1810 and 1820 census shows his son Arthur as the head of house. Where his other son William was also. He passed away in Benton, July 16, 1848, at ninety-six.

Wounded at War - Lieutenant Everett Mylin, of Lancaster, a member of the 314th Infantry, was wounded and gassed on September 26, receiving a bullet through the leg, fracturing the bone. He was a star quarterback at F & M College, and played baseball at Lititz."

"'Hooks' Mylin Succumbs. LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) - Edward Everett 'Hooks' Mylin, football coach of the year in 1937 when he built an undefeated team in his first season at Lafayette, died Thursday at the age of 80. A distinguished quarterback during his undergraduate days at Franklin and Marshall, Mylin landed his first coaching assignment in 1919 at the Massanutten Academy in Virginia. At the time of his retirement in 1950 he was head coach at New York University. He was inducted into the National Football Foundation's Hall of Fame in 1974. Following the brief stint in Virginia, Mylin coached several years at Iowa State College, then was head coach at Lebanon Valley from 1923 to 1933. He joined Bucknell as head coach in 1934, and his first team scored at 25-0 victory over the University of Miami in the inaugural Orange Bowl game. Lafayette hired Mylin in 1937. During the ensuing three years, he built a 36-24-1 record for the Leopards. His 1940 team went undefeated. Mylin left Lafayette 1940 to work for the Army, but he returned for one year in 1946. He joined New York University a year later, but resigned three years later, complaining about the team's limited practice. "Its just impossible to buck the teams we have to meet." he said.
