[23389] Doug Thompson states (http://freespace.virgin.net/doug.thompson/BraoseWeb/index1.htm): "Philip was left in charge of Wexford when Henry II left Ireland in 1172. Later that year he received a grant of North Munster ( without the City of Limerick) but was unable to take possession. Philip was Governor of Ireland (Procurator) from 1 Sep 1184 to 25 April 1185 (when Prince John became Governor). [See Herbert Wood's 'The Office of Chief Governor of Ireland, 1172 - 1509' pub in Proceedings of the Royal Irish Academy, Vol 36, Sect C, no 12 (1923). Revised by H G Richardson & G O Sales, "The Administration of Ireland, 1172 - 1377" (Dublin, 1963) and A J Otway-Ruthven, 'The Chief Governors of Medieval Ireland', Journal of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland, xcv (1965), 227-36.] Philip married Matilda de Pont de l'Arche - who subsequently married William, Baron Naas (reference to this marriage is in the Close Rolls of Henry II ).

[28725] Robert Warden notes that Gross Scruggs served under General Anthony Wayne and Edward Conway in the War for Independence. "Scruggs Genealogy," Ethel Hastings Scruggs Dunklin (NY: LaPlante & Dunklin Printing Co., 1912) reports "Gross Scruggs, son of Jesse Scruggs was bom in Virginia. He served in the Revolutionary War, enlisting as private under General Anthony Wayne. At the close of the war he returned with General Wayne, and the militia belonging to the upper counties of Georgia, to their Headquarters at Ebenezer, April 22, 1782. He married twice; first, Annie Keith Hale, by whom he had issue: 1. Frederick. 2. William, located in Georgia. 3. Mary. Gross Scruggs married, for his second wife, Margaret Earle of Georgia, by whom he had issue: (1.) Gross, born February 10, 1790. (2.) Jesse. (3.) Margaret."
