[2941] Joseph m. 7 Jan 1692 Sarah Howard (b. ca. 1665). With his brothers Jonathan and Daniel he moved to Preston, CT, near the homestead and received a deed dated 23 Feb 1707 to a tract there, where he farmed for the rest of his life. Joseph served frequently as referee in disputes over property boundaries and on various town committees. He perhaps married another woman before Sarah Howard, as his eldest child was born 18 years before his second child, and his youngest was born 32 years after his eldest - "New England Families, Vol. 1, Genealogies and Memorials," p. 393.

http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cousin/html/p143.htm offers: "The name 'Machir,' comes from Genesis 50:23, used by R. Machir, in Iraq, and Narbonne, France; 8th-9th century. Theodoric I of Septimania was received by Charlemagne and was given the title 'King of the Jews'. His ancestry is possibly one of the greatest lineages of antiquity. Theodoric, claimed (or others do for him) descent not only from the Merovingian Kings, but lineal descent from King David himself. Both the king and the Pope acknowledged this pedigree. Also called Makhir Natronai ben Habibi the Resh Galuta. Exilarch of Narbonne in Septimania. Also called Rabbi Makir ha-David. Also called Dietrich. He was born circa 720 in Babylonia, Persian Empire. He was the son of Habibai beni David (David Descent Tradition). He married Alda des Francs, daughter of Carolus Martellus, dux Francorum and Chrothais , a concubine, before 740. Count in 742. 'The evidence is sketchy and muddled at this distance, but a persistant account of Theodoric I has it that he was the Jewish Exilarch in Narbonne, and that he succeeded in establishing a regionally autonomous Jewish-led state around Narbonne. Makhir has been identified as being Makhir Natronai, Resh Galuta in Baghdad, ousted from that position by a cousin in 771. If true, it would be a matter of considerable interest; the Baghdad Exilarchs were reputed to be lineal descendents of the ancient Hebrew King David. What is fairly clear is that Septimania achieved an independent position in this era by some means or other, with the status of a Duchy or even possibly a Kingdom.' He was living between 771 and 793. He was sent by Haroun Al-Rashid, Calif of Baghdad to Charlemagne, King of the West at his request, who wanted to establish in Europe a middle class based on a Jewish nucleus between 786 and 793." See also http://www.reference.com/browse/wiki/Septimania.
http://www.hostkingdom.net/Diaspora.html oiffers: "SEPTIMANIA - Note should be made of this district, a coastal region in the far south of France, between the Pyrennes Mountains to the southwest and Provence to the northeast - essentially, the Golfe du Lion littoral, centered on Narbonne. In the middle to later 700's, the district came under the authority of a Theodoric, who is often also referred to as "Makhir" This Makhir has been identified as Makhir Natronai, Resh Galuta in Baghdad, exiled from that place in a succession dispute. Theodoric-Makhir established a dynasty in Septimania wich endured for better than 70 years, until the 840's. Muted and equivocal evidence suggests that Theodoric and his descendents established a Jewish-led state, and this is not entirely improbable - the south of France has always been a region influenced by many and diverse cultural elements and strains of thought, and heterodox opinions have deeply penetrated the region (it was, for example, a major center for Cathari and Albigensian heretics in the 13th century)."
http://xenohistorian.faithweb.com/worldhis/Hist10b.html offers: "The Visigoths took a very large chunk of the Western Roman Empire in the fifth century, but failed to hold onto much of it in the sixth. This included the southern half of France, which they lost to the Frankish king Clovis after a big battle in 507. Theodoric the Ostrogoth intervened to keep the land south of the Garonne (Gascony) and the western part of the Riviera (Septimania) in Visigoth hands."

[24621] Jutta is daughter of Rudolph IV von Habsburg, Gf von Kyburg, Ldgf von Thurgau, German King - for his ancestry, see http://genealogy.euweb.cz/habsburg/habsburg1.html. http://www.guide2womenleaders.com offers: "Queen Guta von Habsburg of Bohemia (Czech Republic) - Soon after her marriage to Václav II of Bohemia she gained influence on him and inflamed his expansion plans in Slesia and Poland and she introduced German traditions at court, most importantly the presence of knights and she thereby continued the opening of Prague to the west, that Kunigunde of Swabia had begun, and the city became a cultural centre. She also tried to reconcile her husband and brother, Albrecht, Duke of Austria and her role in foreign politics was not without significance. She gave birth to 10 children but only the son Václav and the daughters Anna, Elisabeth und Margarethe survived. The two first motioned both became Queens of Bohemia. She originally named Jutta and was daughter of Count Rudolf von Habsburg and his first wife Gertrud von Hohenberg, and lived (1271-97)."
