[1459] Mary, Countess of Mortain and Abbess of Romsey (Mortain), is buried at St. Austrebert, Eure-Et-Loir, France. Ancestral File, 1/92, gives her birth year as ca. 1131 (as first child). http://www.guide2womenleaders.com/womeninpower/Womeninpower1150.htm offers: "1159-70 Sovereign Countess Marie of Boulogne (France) - Abbess of Ramsey in England when her brother, Guillaume, died and she had to marry Matthias of Alsace, who became Count of Boulogne and co-ruler in 1160. They reigned together until their divorce in 1170 and produced had daughters together. After their divorce, she was a nun after 1169 in St. Austrebert, Montreul. Her former husband continued to reign as Count of Boulogne until his death in 1173, when their daughter Ida became the Countess. Their second daughter Mahaut of Boulogne, inherited the posessions in England, and married Henry I, Duke of Brabant, whose granddaughter, Adelaide later inherited the county. She was daughter of King Stephen de Blois of England, Comte de Mortain, Duke de Normandie and Mahaut I de Boulogne . . . ."

[5954] See http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/TOULOUSE%20NOBILITY.htm. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cousin/html/p145.htm offers: "He was received Tortosa in 1136. He was with the Emperor Alfonso at the victory over the Almohades at Almería in 1147. 'In the beginning of August the famous French ambassadors came by sea. Their arrival embittered many. Having duly greeted the Emperor, they, the glory of their kingdom, spoke in the following manner: "Oh what a great honor it is for the noble French youth to greet you in a clear voice with all their sails unfurled. . . . William, the leader of Montpellier, powerful in his own right, follows these in a large and mighty vessel. They are perfectly armed and are prepared for a fierce war. They have remembered the alliance, for they now have arrived at the port. They also bring large stones for the destruction of the walls. These men lead a thousand ships, and they claim that already they may be too late. They are loaded with embellished arms and sweet foods. Once the battle begins, they will fight for the booty of gold. Surely they will kill our enemies without fail. Under their prudent leader, these spirited troops do not need the aid of anyone, if only they are aided by your forces. "' He was became a Cisterian monk before 1162 in Granselve."
