[51864] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 16 October 2017": "Ellsworth - Alberta M. Abbott, 87, of Ellsworth, passed away suddenly Oct. 2, 2017. Alberta was born in Brooklin, Aug. 6, 1930, to Burt and Mary Bowden Candage of North Brooklin. Alberta enjoyed her retirement years at Seaport Village assisted living and appreciated all the staff. She loved going shopping in Ellsworth at Walmart, Mardens and Shaws. She adored visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and recently took a family outing to a lobster picnic on the shores of Somes Sound. In her younger years, she made Christmas wreaths and canned all the vegetables from her large gardens at her house on the Washington Junction Road in Hancock. A doting mother and grandmother, she was beloved for babysitting and reading stories to her grandchildren, who still remember the smell of her molasses cookies, chocolate cake, chop suey and New England boiled dinner. Her ready smile and merry laugh befit a woman who understood lifes purest joys: good food, small children, a friendly dog and a spirited Christmas carol. Alberta is survived by her daughter, Joan Abbott Mills, and her husband, Daniel, of Bar Harbor; her son, Donald Abbott, and his wife, Betty, of Lakeland, Fla.; and seven grandchildren: Christopher Mills of Lyman; Abraham Mills and his wife, Kaitlin, of Ashland, Mass.; Jason Mills and his wife, Jordanna Max Brodsky, of New York, N.Y.; Benjamin Mills and his wife, Dr. Marika Mills, of Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; Jarrad (Chad) Mills of New York, N.Y.; Lorrie Woodward of Surry; and Donna Abbott of Lakeland, Fla. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Alan Mikhal, Vicki, Chrissy, Zachary, Lucas, Arya, Lydia, Everly and Acadia, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend, Alberta Williams. Alberta was predeceased by her husband, Donald J. Abbott, who died in 1971, and by her siblings Ruby Pinkham, Russell Candage, Burt Candage, Norman Candage, Raymond Candage and Carol Damon, and her grandson, Timothy Abbott."

[1727] Bela III reigned 1172-1196. He was "brought up in Constantinople and designated to marry the emperor's heiress, when Hungary would have become a vassal of the Eastern Roman Empire, but on his accession he married a French princess and reconstituted Hungary's position. Under him the country achieved great wealth and power, extending its influence far and wide in eastern Europe; Galicia was made a feudatory of Hungary and Serbia a satellite. At home the royal authority was re-established. Urban life developed and western cultural influences penetrated the national life." - Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1956 edition, 11:902. Bela m. (2) in 1886 Marguerite, former wife of Henry III of England and daughter of Louis VII of France and his second wife, Constance of Castile (q.v.).
