[754] William was the last surviving pensioner of the War for Independence in New England, and next to last in the nation. See "William Hutchins and the American Revolution", Wilson Museum Bulletin (Castine, ME - Winter 1984), 2:29. He helped carry the first log that was used in building the southeast bastion of Fort George in 1779. Penobscot V.R. gives his death date as 3 May 1866 and lists the children shown here. William m. (2) widow Mary Saunders Ames (who d. 1 Feb 1866 at Penobscot). He was a captain and master mariner.
