After his mother's death, when he was 16, his brother James became his guardian. After his marriage in 1696 to Puella Hussey of Nantucket, he moved to South Sea (West Yarmouth). He built his house near the landing at Hyannis Port. It was a large 2 story building, kept by him as a tavern. In 1706, with his brother in law Thomas Baxter and his nephew, John Baxter, he built a fulling-mill in Yarmouth."
