[27609] http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cousin/html/p366.htm provides further ancestry and offers: "The Bagratuni dynasty divided in the 9th century into two branches, one which reigned in Armenia, starting with Ashot I in 885, and the other of which reigned in Iberia, starting with Adarnese II in 888. The Armenian branch ceded Armenia to the Byzantine Empire in 1045, while Iberia united with Abkhazeti (Abkhazia) and became known as Georgia, taking its name from King Giorgi I (1014-1027). Asot I 'the Great', King of Armenia was son of Smbat Ablabas Bagratuni. He was viewed as greater than all of his predecessors, since after holding the sparapetut'iwn, he was prince of princes and then received crowns from two kings, Ishmaelite and Byzantine. He embellished the churches of Armenia with great ornaments and brightness [during] thirty-two years as prince of princes, and five years as king of Armenia. He was a God-fearing, benevolent man, an adorner of the Church, and a lover of the services of God. He was born circa 815. He was the son of Smbat VIII Ablabas, sparapet of Armenia and Hripsime (?) . He married Kotramidé (?) . Prince of Princes in Armenia, Transcaucasia, between 853 and 884. He was recognized by the court at Baghdad as prince of princes, a measure that did not fail to provoke a violent reaction on the part of the semiautonomous Arab emirates that had been established in the very heart of Armenia in 861. He was appointed 'ishkhan of ishkhans' (prince of princes) by the Caliph in 862. He settled, toward the end of the 9th century, at Artanuji in Tao (southwestern Georgia), Transcaucasia. He elected to be king of Armenia and recognized as such by both the caliph and the Byzantine emperor (Basil I, himself of probably Armenian origin) in 885. He profited from the weakness of the Byzantine emperors and the Arab caliphs and set himself up as hereditary prince in Iberia. He was sent a crown by the Caliph and recognized as shahnshah, king of kings of the Armenians, and Basil I, emperor of Byzantians, made haste to do the same in 885. 1st King of Armenia in the Caliphate, Transcaucasia, between 885 and 890. He died in 890. 'Amir Xalil [Halid ibn Yazid ibn Mazyad ash-Shaibani] came and killed Ashot, and was himself slain in Jawaxet'. Kirakos on the other hand says 'he passed to Christ, dying peacefully, possessing the correct doctrine.'"

[28893] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnus_I_of_Saxe-Lauenburg remarks "During the declining years of his father he governed the country and became a Duke in 1507. The first years of his governing has been filled by various conflicts with the Archdiocese of Bremen and the Bishopric of Ratzeburg. With the first he disputed the territories around the Jade River and the regions of Hadeln and of Wursten. The conflict was finished after unsuccessful campaign in 1498 through the mediation of Dukes Henry and Eric of Brunswick-Lüneburg."

[1510] In 2007 http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/NORTHERN%20FRANCE.htm offers: "Mathilde de Vermandois. The Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines records the proposed marriage of 'Robertus comes Mellentinus' and the daughter of 'Hugonis Crispeiensis comes' which was prohibited by 'Yvo [episcopus]' on grounds of consanguinity, the mutual descent of the two parties from 'Gauterus Albus de Albamarla' being set out in the chronicle although the name of the daughter is not given. It is not known which to daughter this refers, but it may be Mathilde. The Genealogiæ Scriptoris Fusniacensis' refers to (but does not name) the second of the daughters of 'Hugonem Magnum [et] Adelaide comitissa Veromandensium' as wife of 'Radulfo de Baugenci', parents of 'Simonem eiusdem loci principem'. She is named in the testament of 'Simon Balgenciacensis dominus' dated to [1146/53] which names 'Radulfi mei patris et Matildis mei matris'. The fact that Mathilde was the eldest daughter is confirmed by the 'De Genere Comitum Flandrensium, Notæ Parisienses' which records 'Agnes uxor domini Ingelranni de Cociaco' as daughter of 'domina de Baugenciaco primogenita [comitis Hugonis li Maines]'. - m (1090) as his second wife, Raoul Seigneur de Baugency, son of Lancelin Seigneur de Baugency & his wife --- (-[1130])."

Apparently Mary is daughter of John Witter. Sylvia (Mickybole@aol.com) wrote via email 6 Jan 2003: "Mary Witter Piper is a sister to my gg-grandfather, Abraham Witter. Abraham was married to a Catherine Ann Piper who was a niece to Daniel Piper. From a death notice found in a Fulton Co., PA newspaper we found that our Abraham came to Franklin Co., PA from Frederick Co., MD, with his "his father John Witter". We have information from land/court records of Frederick Co., MD, that a John Witter came from Lancaster Co., PA to MD in the early 1780s and then to Franklin Co., PA in the early 1800s. We believe this to be the father of our Abraham and his sister Mary. But do not have POSITIVE documentation for this, i.e., birth records/will etc. Abraham was born 11 Jul 1786, the obit said Frederick Co., MD. We believe that our John Witter was married to a Catherine, but suspect he was married more than once. We also believe Christophel Witter/Weider/Widder, Sr., from Lancaster Co., PA, to be the father of John. (The Union Co., IN Witters are descended from this Christophel's son Christopher.)"

Betty Boddy Jantz posted in GenForum in June, 2003: "The way I see it, Mary Witter b. 26 Mar 1784 Frederick, MD was the daughter of John Witter b. abt 1762 and Hannah or Honour Washburn (dates unknown). She married Daniel Piper b. abt 1777 (son of Johann Adam Piper/Pfeiffer of Mainz, Germany. They had three boys: John A. Piper, Levi, and Abraham b. betwn 1803 - 1828. That's all I have on Mary. Mary's brother, Abraham Witter b. 11 Jul 1786 Fredericks Co, MD married Catherine Ann Piper b. 1805 m. 1923 and had 14 children...one being Adam Piper Witter b. 3 Feb 1829 Franklin Co, PA who married Hannah Tice. They had my great-grandfather, Abraham Howard Witter b. 01 Jul 1859 PA, who married Nancy Elmira Shriver b. 1864 married 1885 in Louisville, Kansas. My grandmother, Gertrude Nell Witter b. 6 Jun 1889 in LaClede(?), KS, was one of seven Witter/Shriver children. We know very little about her family and who her siblings married, etc. Gertrude Nell married my grandfather Aura Reinforth Boddy in 1917 Norton, Kansas where they raised very domesticated milk cows and farmed south of Norton, as well as owned property in downtown Littleton, Colorado." Betty Jantz wrote in GenForum in March, 2004: "I have seen John and Christina Roser Witter/Wieder born in PA, moved to Frederick County, MD (where Abraham and his older sister, Mary Piper/Pfeiffer) were born, then moved back to Amberson Valley, Fannett Twp, Franklin County, PA."

Marc Thompson (Fitpro4@aol.com) of Delray Beach, FL in 2006 stated that Mary's father is son of "John Christopher Wieder, born Abt. 1720; died Sep 25, 1807 in PA."
