[4407] Alphonso VI was "a sovereign of strong personal character" {-Encycl. Brit., 1956, 1:687} He was king of Leon, 1065-1109, and of Castile, 1072-1109 - see comments under his brother, Sancho II. He captured Toledo, ancient capital of the Visigoths, from the Moors, 1085 - Toledo was the Moorish capital of Iberia. This expanded his rule to the Tagus River and the center of the Iberian peninsula. He welcomed the Cluniac monks and pressed for adoption of the Roman liturgy instead of the Mozarabic. His daughters married French nobles, resulting in establishment of the Burgundian dynasties in Castile, Leon and Portugal. He reigned 1065-1109. Alphonso VI he married first Agnes of Aquitaine, a marriage which remained childless; he married secondly Constance de Bourgogne, they produced six children, but only Uracca, his heir, and Donna Sancha (who remained childless) survived. He married thirdly Berta, who died childless. He married fourthly Dona Isabel, who probably came from France, she was he mother of two daughters: Sancha married DonRodrigo Gonzalez de Lara, and Elvira who married Roger II of Sicily. Before the Norman invasion it belonged to Tochi, and was afterwards part of the fee of Goisford de Alselin, which was in the reign of Henry I, divided into two great baronies possessed by Ralph de Alselin of Shelford, and Robert de Caux of Lexington. In the reign of John, Richard de Lexington, who had his name from the residence of his ancestors, held lands here of the de Caux family, and having purchased large estates at other places, was summoned to parliament under the title of Baron Lexington. Henry de Lexington, the fourth Baron Lexington, died in 1257, when the title became extinct, and his property was divided betwixt his nephews and heirs, Richard de Mareham and William de Sutton, from the latter of whom descended Robert Sutton who, in 1645, was created Baron Lexington of Averham, but at the death of his successor of the same name, in 1723, the title again became extinct, and has not since been revived, though some time ago, it was expected to have been conferred upon that branch of the Sutton family, now resident at Kelham, one of whom was Charles Manners Sutton, Archbishop of Canterbury from 1792 until his death in 1805, and his son of the same name, who long held the office of Speaker in the House of Commons, but none of them have any property in this parish."

"Genealogy of the Meyer Family" (1890) describes Philip as "heavy built, muscular and active, but not as tall as his brothers. He was a noted wrestler... Edward was Elder of the First Church of Boston (or, per NEHGR, April 2000, p. 226, of the Third or Old South Church of Boston); Freeman, 1637; married (2) Elizabeth Dildee or Dilloe (1607-88) - both are buried in King's Chapel burying ground, Boston; was a merchant. Baptised at Staverton, England 10 Sept 1609, Parish of St. John the Baptist, and was eighth child of Robert. His brother was Lord Chief Justice of England. Edward is mentioned in his father's will as the third son and is to receive 100 pounds when age 21. He immigrated with the Winthrop fleet aboard the Abigail with 220 passengers, embarking from Plymouth, England, and landing at Boston, Massachusetts, on 4 June 1635.
