Will was chairman of the board of National Suger Refining Co. and son of John Henry Dick (b. 22 Feb 1851 at New York City, d. 21 Oct 1925 at Islip, NY) and wife Julia Theodora Mollenhauer (b. 14 May 1863 at New York City, d. 02 July 1931 at Islip). Will m. (1) Madeleine Talmage Force (divorced in 1933 in Reno, NV) with whom he had William Force Dick (b. 11 April 1917 at New York City, d. 04 Dec 1961 at Port Maria, Jamaica) and John Henry Dick (b. 12 May 1919 at New York City, an ornothologist and painter and illustrator, r. Dixie Plantation, Charleston, SC, and died in September, 1995 - see editorial tribute to him in The Post and Courier, Charleston, September 26, 1995, p. 8-A). Will's obituary lists his stepson, John Jacob Astor (son of his first wife and her first husband, John Jacob Astor, who died in the sinking of the Titanic). It also lists Will's two surviving sisters, Mrs. Horace Havermeyer and Mrs. W. Kingsland Macy, and his brother, Adolph M. Dick, all of Islip, New York. It reports that his maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Mollenhauer of Bay Shore, NY. He was also a director of Best Foods, Inc., Douglas Gibbons & Co., the Eastern States Corporation, the Irving Trust Company, the Norwood and St. Lawrence Railroad, the St. Regis Paper Company, the St. Regis Company, Ltd. of Canada and the St. Regis Timber Company. His grandfather, William Dick, was a pioneer in the founding of the sugar refining business in the United States. Will also was a Director of Southside Hospital in Islip.
Susan Dicus (munga@signalpeak.net) offered by email 20 Feb 2004: "My great-grandfather, Heinrich (Henry) Dicke, was born in Bruchau Province, Hannover, Germany. An uncle of Henry, WIlliam Dicke, had established a sugar refining business in NY with a John Mollenhauer. William Dicke sent for his two nephews (or cousins?), Henry and William, to work in the business. The boys were also able to avoid the military by coming to America. At the sugar refinery the 'e' was dropped from Dicke because it did not fit on the sugar sacks. My great-grandfather married and my grandmother was born in Brooklyn June 1877 and three years later they moved to Ohio for health reasons and resumed spelling the name 'Dicke'. Anna (my grandmother) went to New York when she was eighteen (1895) and stayed with the NY Dickes for about six months. Her aunt had hoped that Anna would replace a daughter who had died of appendicitis. I can remember my aunt telling us kids how my grandmother had a cousin who married the widow of John Jacob Astor who died on the Titanic...."

She was baptised on 17 June 1660 at St. Albans Abbey, St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England. She married Sir John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, son of Sir Winston Churchill and Elizabeth Drak, on 1 October 1678.5 She died on 18 October 1744 at age 84 at Marlborough House, London, England, leaving a fortune of £3,000,000. She was buried at Chapel, Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England. Her will (dated 11 to 15 Aug 1744) was probated in 1744, bequeathing to her first woman, Mrs. Grace Ridley, two portraits of the Duke and one of herself, to the Duchess of Leeds a watercolour portrait of the Duke, and to the Duchess of Montagu a snuff box with two portraits of the Duke and another covered with a large diamond. She left £500 apiece to a Mr. Richard Glover and Mr. David Mallet, to write an account of the Duke's life from his available paperswhich was never written. She and Anne Stuart, Queen of Great Britain were associated between 1683 and 1708. She held the office of Mistress of the Robes before 1711. She held the office of Keeper of the Privy Purse before 1711. She held the office of Groom of the Stole before 1711. She wrote the book 'Conduct From Her First Coming to Court to the Year 1710', published in 1742. Gibbs quotes a Miss Strickland, 'One of her principal charms was a prodigious abundance of fine fair hair.' She expressed in her will that if her son John or his son were to accept any office or employment under the Crown (other than the Rangerships of Windsor Great and Little Parks), either of them so doing would forfeit all interest in her estate as if he were actually dead. Her estates included the manor of Wimbledon and the mansion at Wimbledon Park which she had recently built."

She was previously a mistress to Robert I [The Devil], Duke of Normandy (parents of WIlliam the Conqueror)... having two other children, Odo & Robert. Then she "married" Herlouin who built the Abbey where she is buried. "A History of the Plantagenets, Vol. I, The Conquering Family," Thomas B Costain (Doubleday & Co.: 1949), p. 208: "Falaise Castle was familiar to Englishmen, for it had played an important part in the story of Anglo-Norman relations. Here Robert of Normandy had brought the tanner's daughter and here the healthy child had been born to her who became William the Conqueror. Here the Norman kings had gone most frequently when they returned to the duchy... All the cells in Falaise, and there were many of them, were sunk into the walls, as was the comparatively cheerful apartment where the tanner's daughter had lived..." "A History of the English Speaking People," Winston S Churchill, Vol. I, The Birth of Britain" (Dodd Mead & Co.), p. 153: "One morning Duke Robert of Normandy, the fourth descendant of Rollo, was riding towards his captial town, Falaise, when he saw Arlette, daughter of a tanner, washing linen in a stream. His love was instantly fired. He carried her to his castle, and, although already married to a lady of quality, lived with her for the rest of his days. To this romantic but irregular union there was born in 1027 a son, William, afterwards famous."
