[2920] "The Akron Beacon Journal, 16 October 1956," p. 3: "John Neven Aitken, 62, a former manager of dry cleaning for the City Laundry & Dry Cleaning Co., died Monday in St. Thomas Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Glasgow, Scotland, he had lived in Akron since 1914. He was associated with the City Laundry 40 years, retiring a year ago. He lived at 1024 Whittier av. Mr. Aitken was a 32nd degree Mason in Lake Erie Consistory of the Valley of Cleveland. He was a member of Akron Lodge 83; Bethany Commandery 25, Knights Templar; Akron Council 80. Royal and Select Masters, and Washington Chapter 25, Royal Arch Masons He was a charter member of Yusef-Khan Grotto, and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. For two years Mr. Aitken was president of the Ohio State Dyers and Cleaners Association. He leaves his wife, Grace E.; a daughter, Mrs. Richard Neidert, the former Iain Aitken; three grandchildren; two brothers, Donald in Scotland and Alexander of Akron, and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Cochrane , and Mrs. Chrissie Knowles of Akron. . . . . Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park."

[7282] "The Perry County Democrat [Bloomfield, Pennsylvania], 1 May 1901," p. 3: "Jacob Briner, a highly respected farmer, residing about a mile east of New Germantown, met death in a peculiar manner on Friday morning. He had hitched up his two horse team to go to mill and the team was standing in the road near the house when Mr. Briner went to knot up the tails of the horses. He had accomplished this with the lead horse and reached over to knot the tail of the offside horse, when something happened, just what nobody seems to know, although a number of men were standing near. The horses ran off and Mr. Briner was seen to fall on his hands and knees. It was at first thought he had been kicked by one of the horses. He was taken into the house, where be died in a few minutes. There was not a bruise or a cut upon his body and what caused his death is a mystery. For years the deceased had been badly ruptured and after his death the rupture was found to be down. By some it is thought that when be reached over to tie up the horse's tail he strained himself or was struck in the abdomen by the singletree, which brought down the rupture and caused his death. He was aged 66 years, 7 months and 6 days and was unmarried, his sisters, Mrs. Sallie A. Miller and Mrs. Magdalene Eby, keeping house for him. Mr. Briner was the eldest son of the late George Briner, Sr., who died the last day of December, 1892. He was a brother of Ex-Register and Recorder George S. Briner, of Carlisle; John H. Briner, of New Germantown, and Daniel Briner, of this place. His sudden death was a great shock to the community, where he was held in high esteem." Jacob served in the PA Volunteers for 9 months, enlisting 16 Oct 1862. His discharge papers describe him as 24 years old, 6' tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair and a farmer. In 1890 he received an invalid's pension for piles and a hernia.

Following the death of Raymond of Burgundy, her husband, she ruled the medieval Spanish kingdom of Castile until 1125. Her prior marriage to Alfonso I, King of Aragon (reigned 1109-26) was annulled. Her sister Theresa married her husband's cousin, Count Henry of Chalon, and they were given the area south of Mino as a hereditary county of Portugal; their son Alfonso Enriques was King of Portugal, 1112-85. The following year she inherited the throne from her father Alfonso VI Fernandez of Castile and Leon (1040-1109). Her second marriage in the year 1109 to Alfonso I Perez de Aragon (d. 1134) ended in divorce in 1114. Her reign was disturbed by strife among the powerful nobles and especially by constant warfare with her husband, who had seized her lands. She never remarried, though she took several lovers. Another thorn in her side was her half-sister, Tarasa of Portugal and her husband, Enrique, who allied with her estranged husband, then betrayed him when a better offer came from Urraca's court. After her brother-in-law's death in 1112, her sister still contested ownership of lands. With the aid of her son, Alfonso Raimúndez, Urraca was able to win back much of her domain and ruled successfully until her death. According to the Chronicon Compostellanum, she died in childbirth in 1126. The father was her lover, Count Pedro González of Lara. She was succeeded by her legitimate son, Alfonso VII Raymundez of Castile and Leon "Imperator totus Hispaniae" (d. 1157)."

[43097] "Goshen Daily Democrat," 8 Aug.1904, p. 1: "Daniel Mitchel Expires - Daniel Michel, 86 years old, a well known farmer who resided with his son, Henry Mitchel, near Dunlap, died at 12 o'clock Sunday at the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Henry Shetterly in Cass county, Michigan, his demise being due to heart failure. Mr. Mitchel went to Mrs. Shatterly's a month ago and was taken ill the first day he was there. He gradually grew weaker. The remains will be interred Tuesday afternoon, services being held at the Rowe church, near Dunlap. In addition to Mrs. Shetterly and Henry Mitchel, one son, Will Mitchel, lives in Elkhart, being connected with the Indiana Railway company."
