[1054] Andrew was a soldier in the War for Independence and resided in Gorham, Maine. He m. Mr. Thatcher at the time of the "New Light" excitement and he withdrew to the Free Will Baptists. While he and others were attending a Baptist convention and the women were preparing dinner for them the house burned down. He was also a Second Lt. in Capt. Jonah Washburn's Co., Col. Eben White's Regt. and marched to Rhode Island on alarm of 1 Aug 1780 - discharged 9 Aug 1780, having served 9 days. Roll sworn to at Middleborough. Capt. Henry Pierce's Co., Col. Theophilous Cotton's Regt. - enlisted 8 March 1781, discharged 31 March 1781, served 26 days at Rhode Island by order of his Excellency John Hancock of 40 days expedition. (John) Peter's farm was laid out 5 May 1747 and patented 14 Dec 1771 in Penn's Manor of Andulhea, east of the Altalaha Lutheran Church (founded in 1757) and beyond the present limits of Rehrersburg in Tulpehocken Twp., Berks Co., PA, a short distance south of the Little Swatara Creek. He served in the War for Independence as a Private in the PA Militia m (Capt. Folmer's company, 6th Battalion, 7th Co., 1777-1779) - see SAR #139030 (PA #10052) and PA Archives, Series 3, Vol. 18, p. 805 and Series 3, Vol. 6, p. 294. Peter Ritzman, Sr. was fined £ 0.7.6 as a Private on inactive duty service with the militia (Capt. John Folmer, 7th Co., 6th Battalion, Berks Co., PA. in the period 1777-1779 - see Revolutionary War Military Abstract Card File in the PA Archives.

"Eighteenth Century Emigrants from German-Speaking Lands to North America, Vol II: The Western Palatinate," Annette Kunselman Burgert (Birdsboro, PA: PA Germany Society, 1985), p. 261 reports a Peter Ritzman of Tulpehocken was appointed a guardian by the Berks Co. Orphans Court 9 Nov 1784 for minor children of Gertraut Stupp (daughter of Martin Stupp), widow of Johann Christian Pfaffenberger.
Perhaps he is the Peter Ritzman of Tulpehocken who was naturalized 17 Sept 1765.
