[3655] Boleslaus I is grandson of first Christian Duke of Bohemia, Borivorius I, and his wife St. Ludomilla (d. 920, Countess of Mielnick) - his ancestry is traced through ancient Bohemian nobility to Czocus (Cracus), Duke 670-709, "a noble Croatian". {Ref. "Royal Ancestors of Magna Charta Barons," Carr P. Collins, Jr., Dallas, 1959, p. 43.} Boleslaus I murdered his brother Wenzel ("the Holy", later canonized) in 935) and expanded the boundaries of Bohemia. Boleslaus I reigned as Duke 938-967. He married Bozena_________. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~pmcbride/james/f015.htm offers: "He, being favorable to his mother, sided with her in plotting against his brother, Wenceslas. Together they killed Ludmilla, his paternal grandmother, and Wenceslas. Otto I. led a vast army into Bohemia, laying waste in his anger to a large part of the country. Drahomira was killed and Boseslav was imprisoned, then released to become a vassal king of a subject Bohemia. Boleslav died, a guilty, unloved king, tortured by his own conscience and the contempt of his people." See also http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cousin/html/p115.htm.

"A History of Spain and Portugal, Vol. 1," Stanley G. Paine (Madison: The U. of Wisc. Press,
1973), p. 116: "After the death of Fernando I and his division of Castile-Leon, the barons of
the Portugalense rebelled against the domination of the new 'King of Galicia,' Fernando's
younger son Garcia (1071). This hostility was exacerbated by the powerful archdiocese of
Santiago, which opposed independent authority for Braga, ecclesiastical center of the
Portugalense, whose bishopric had been restored in 1070. The ephemeral kingdom of Galicia
came to an end in 1073 when it was incorporated by Castile-Leon, and Galicia remained close to
the interests of the kingdom, to which it had geographic access through Asturias. Coimbra and
the Portugalense, however, continued to be relatively isolated by the rugged barrier of the
Tras-os-Montes district and increasingly at odds with their cultural cousins to the north, who
were under antagonistic political and ecclesiastical leadership."

[5806] http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cousin/html/d0008/g0000891.html#I11314 (not verified; 2003) reports that Gertrude also m. Siegfried von Orlamünde. http://www.guide2womenleaders.com/womeninpower/Womeninpower1100.htm offers: "After her first husband, Count Siegfred von Ballenstedt, Pfalzgraf bei Rhein was killed in battle, she fought for the inheritance of their sons Count Siegfried zu Orlamünde (d. 1124) and Wilhelm, Pfalzgraf bei Rhein (d. 1140), aided by her second husband, Count Otto von Rheineck (d. 1150). Her third son Otto II von Rheineck was killed in 1149, and therefore she administered his inheritance as her own fiefs until her death, and had nothing more to do with the County Palatine by the Rhine. She managed to have her daughter Sophie named Heiress of the County of Bentheim. Gertrud was daughter of Heinrich the Fat of Northeim and Gertrud von Braunschweig, sister of Empress Richenza...."
