Bragdon Sr. died Jan. 10, 2017, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth after a brief illness at the age of 75. Robert was born July 28, 1941, in Bar Harbor to Nahum and Elva Bragdon. Robert was the youngest of 18 children. Robert graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1960. He worked for many years at the Stinson Canning Co. and many years at the Corea Lobster Co-Op. Upon retiring, he opened 'The Other Place' at his home and enjoyed selling lobsters to the tourists and local people. He was a people person and enjoyed telling stories, which they loved to hear. He will be greatly missed by all. He also enjoyed going to Disneyworld, which he would never admit. Robert is survived by his wife and best friend of 38 years, Ruby Bragdon, daughters Robin Wyzokowski and husband, Mike, of Sullivan, Bobbi Ann Harris and partner, Greg Bunker, of Township 9, sons Robert W. Bragdon Jr. 'Slugger' and wife, Barbara Jean, of Winter Harbor, James Bragdon 'Punk' and wife, Pam, of Steuben and David Byers and wife, Shannon, of Lamoine, who he considered his own. He is also survived by his grandchildren Matt and Jacob Feldenzer, Shane and Kasi Harris, Kylie and Cyrus Bragdon, Brett and Wyatt Bragdon; great-grandchildren Cole Faulkingham and Braelynne Wyzokowski; brothers Elmer, Herbert and Merle; sisters Sandra Dunton, Elva Murphy and Agnes Schneider; and two great friends, Danny Backman Jr. and Gail Backman of Winter Harbor. Robert was predeceased by his parents, granddaughter Leslie Bell, brothers Kenneth, Charlie, Elgin, Bo, Richard, Nelson, Hollis, and sisters Isabel, Loretta, Sally, Elizabeth and Margaurite."

Oleg united many Russian tribes and took over Kiev in 882. He imposed on the Drevlians the tax of a marten's fur from every house, and he obtained a beneficial trade treaty with the Byzantine empire in 911. Oleg was succeeded by his son Igor (r. 913-945). Igor's forces attacked Constantinople in 941, but they were defeated by the Byzantine navy and its Greek fire. The Russians campaigned in Persia in 943, and the treaty with the Byzantine emperor the next year was not as favorable for the Russians as the earlier one. Igor tried to collect tribute in the land of the Drevlians, but they killed him in 945. Since their son Svjatoslav was only a boy, Oleg's widow Olga ruled Russia for the next seventeen years. She was converted to Christianity shortly before her journey to Constantinople in 957; but her son and most of the people remained pagans."
Igor (Ingvar) may be son of Rurik. Igor is Oleg's successor and he concluded a treaty with the Byzantines in 945. She was born in Bucksport, on December 13, 1938, daughter of Kenneth and Barbara (Conners) White, where she grew up with her siblings, Lillian, Linda, Brian, and Ronald White, Susan Dakin, and Beverly and Chandler Wilson. Julia was a graduate of Bucksport High School, earning Fourth Honor Part, and went on to be a secretary for the Navy ROTC Unit at Maine Maritime Academy for 31 years. Julia had both a strong and gentle spirit. She was soft-spoken, kind and thoughtful, and was quick to share her smile and her laugh. With a sense of adventure and fun, she embraced life fully with Edgar, her loving husband of 44 years, while raising their children in Castine. She whole-heartedly shared her love of outdoors, gardening, and crafts with her children and grandchildren, who fondly remember summer days spent at the Backshore, fun-filled camping trips, and the tradition of making Christmas wreaths after Thanksgiving at the family home in Castine. Julia embarked on many hiking and kayaking excursions with close friends, doing portions of the Appalachian Trail from Katahdin, where she crossed the infamous Knife Edge Trail, to New Hampshire. She and Edgar made a formidable team in bowling leagues and were always up for a game of cards. She also enjoyed and liked to reminisce about her extensive travels and her many extended stays in Florida. In past years, she was an active member of the Trinitarian Congregational Parish where she looked forward to Sunday services and the comradery of others while helping with church suppers and annual fairs. Julia's warm embrace will forever be felt by her beloved family and friends. Julia was predeceased and deeply loved by her husband, Edgar; and was lovingly adored by her children, Andrew Bowden and his wife, Wendy, of Portland, Greg Bowden and his wife, Jill, of Newburyport, MA, Angela Cushman and her husband, Skip, of Dayton, Timothy Bowden and his wife, Stéphanie, of Falmouth; and her grandchildren, Drew and Bianca Bowden, Emily Worthington, Caleb Bowden, Ashton and Connor Cushman, and Océane, Amélie and Tim Bowden."
