Johnston Gates of Shelby; his life partner, Charles Herrera of Los Angeles; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Robert Saltzgaber of Ashland; three brothers and a sister-in-law, David and Arlene Gates of Sidney, Garland John Gates of Shelby and Carl Gates of Columbus; a nephew, Michael Gates of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three nieces, Lisa Gates of Columbus, and Patti and Tiffany Saltzgaber, both of Ashland; three aunts and two uncles, Antonia and Clarence Yohn of Shelby, Lois and Paul Foote of Seneca Falls, N.Y., and Hazel Williams of Trenton, Mich.; a great-aunt, Gladys Briner of Shelby; and several cousins.
