He is survived by his wife, Margaret, whom he married Nov. 26, 1924; three sons, the Rev. Jack Baer of Warren, Mich., Dr. Robert Baer of Fairfield and Richard Baer of Oconomowoc, Wis.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Harry Jr.

[5139] Canute (also spelled Cnut) reigned in England 1016-35 and in Denmark 1019-35, and was Lord of the Orkney and Shetland Islands and of Scotland. He won England in battle against Aethelred II, and when Aethelred's son, Edmund, died, Canute won acceptance by the English nobles. He was a strong leader, seeing himself as successor to the earlier English kings and marrying Aethelred's widow, Emma. He had close ties with his Norman cousins and united England and Denmark in one kingdom. He became a Christian and founded monasteries. Canute m. (1) Elgiva, daughter of the Ealdorman of Deira (never consecrated) and had Harold Harefoot and Sweyn; Canute m. Charles Wilson McDonald, son of Robert F. and Leah C. McDonald was born near Winterset, Iowa August 25, 1876, and departed this life July 17, 1929 at the age of 52 years, 10 months and 22 days.
On December 12th, 1906, he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie B. Paullin of Winterset. To this union were born three children, Esther, Ethel and Charles who are all at home.
Charlie (as he was familiarly known) spent his entire life on the home place in Douglas township with the exception of six years. It can be truly said of him that, "He was an obedient son, a loving husband, a kind father and a good neighbor."
He united with the West Star M. E. church about 1910 and was faithful in all his duties to the church. He was a man who was loved and respected by all who knew him. Although the last ten years of his life have been years of intense suffering, yet he bore his affliction with great patience. He never complained but was always thoughtful of others, especially his family and aged mother who made her home with them.
Those who have preceded him in death are his father, who died in 1906, and one sister, Mrs. Harriett Laizure who died in 1918. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and three children, his aged mother, two brothers and one sister, James T. of Wichita, Kansas; Joseph A. of Mt. Vernon, South Dakota and Mrs. Ethel Kuntz of Winterset. Also a host of relatives and friends for he was a friend to everyone.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Winterset on Friday afternoon, July 19th at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. A. R. Weed of the West Star church, assisted by Rev. A. P. Keast. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

[50317] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 11 February 2019": "Old Town - Alice M. Dyer, 98, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2019, at The Meadows, Old Town. She was born on June 27, 1920. She had 62 years of a loving marriage to Arnold Dyer before his death in 1999. Alice, the daughter of Grover and Edna (Nelson) Wardwell, was predeceased by her six brothers and three sisters. She was a kind, sweet and giving woman, however she spoke out for what was right long before it was popular, much to the admiration of the female members of her family. Alice loved her family, her church and God's gift of nature. Arnold and Alice made their home in Presque Isle. There they worked together to raise their family until the birth of their first grandchild, which prompted them to move to Bangor to be closer. There were a total of 4 grandchildren filling both the arms and laps of 'Nana' and 'Poppy.' Alice became a member of the United Methodist Church in 1937. She loved working in any capacity needed for God and her church. Alice taught first grade Sunday School for 12 years, was a member of the Dorcas Circle in PI, the Piburn Circle in Bangor and served as Vice President and then President of the United Methodist Women for two terms in Presque Isle. Alice and Arnold also became members of the Riverside Grange #273 of No. Brewer and Pamona #8. She served as Secretary, Chaplin and Lecturer during her involvement. Alice enjoyed gardening and grew both flowers and vegetables. Although she was a homemaker and best known for her bread making abilities, she also worked seasonally for UMaine and the USDA on potato research projects. Alice will be missed by the family she adored. She leaves behind her two daughters, Judi and Ralph Collier (Bangor) and Gail Dyer-Martin (Hollis, NH); four grandchildren, April Cottle and Tim, Matthew Collier and Kathryn Parker, Annemarie Bellavance and David, and Caitlyn Daisy and Brian; eleven great-grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as 'Big Nana' or simply 'Big,' Jacob, Ashton, Izaac, Isabella, Mason, Trey, Hendrix, Oliver, Charlotte and the twins, Alice and Piper. She was predeceased by her husband; infant daughter and son; granddaughter, Audra Collier; and son-in-law, Gary Martin. She also leaves behind her Meadows family who gave her so much love and joy these last several years. Her family is grateful for the fine care she received there, allowing her to live with companionship and pass with dignity."
