Glatfelter, "Pastors and People: German Lutheran and Reformed Churches in the Pennsylvania Field, 1717-1793," Vol. I (Breinigsville, PA: PA German Society, 1980) reports: "New Allemangel and Friedens: located in Albany Twp. and organized in 1770, New Allemangel was formed after a split from old Allemangel Church. They completed a new building which was dedicated in 1771. Lutheran Daniel Schumacher and Reformed Frederick Berger provided the pastoral support for the breakoff congregation and a new union church register was begun on 20 May 1771. It was widely known as White Church. The Reformed withdrew from the union in 1960 and the Lutheran Congregation in 1980 was known as Friedens Lutheran, located at Stony Run 12 miles north of Kutztown." [1255] "Staples is an Irish surname and the families bearing it in that country are wealthy and distinguished. ...Peter Staples, Jr., of Kittery, made his will June 6, 1718, `being aged', mentioned wife, Elizabeth, and sons Peter, John, and James." - "Saco Valley Settlements and Families...," G.T.Ridlon, Sr., published privately at Portland, ME, 1895, p. 1159. Peter, Thomas and another brother (Christian?) arrived at Kittery in 1671. Stearns' "Genealogical and Family History of the State of New Hampshire" (2:600) reports that Peter purchased land on Long Reach from Thomas Turner 4 July 1674. This land was deeded by Peter and Elizabeth to their son, Peter, 1694. Peter's will was probated 7 April 1719 (Maine Wills, p. 215-6, York Probate 3,14 Docket No. 17865 - see http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/me/york/wills/staples1.txt). See "Old Kittery and Her Families," Everett S. Stackpole (Lewiston, ME: 1903), p. 95 and 752ff. An account of the name derives it from the village of Estaples in France, and claims that the ancestor of the British family perhaps came with William the Conqueror. Other account traces the name to the inventor of the iron staple or to the obsolete term for a market or market town.
