[11608] William was appointed Archbishop of York in 1142 and was hounded from the see by those who charged simony (he is nephew of King Stephen), mostly of the newly arrived White Monks supported by St. Bernard of Clairvaux. He then retired as a monk at Winchester, living a very humble life, but finally was restored to the see of York. His feast day is June 8th. See http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/15628c.htm
