[1548] Variant of the surname is Wardell at the time of Thomas' emigration. He arrived at Boston, MA in 1633. He then moved to Exeter, NH in 1638 because of a religious controversy in First Church, Boston. He was a founder of the the church at the falls of the Piscataqua in Jan. 1639. He was judge of small cases at Exeter in 1643. In the spring of 1641 the Exeter militia elected Thomas their sergeant.
