He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict, then had a career in automotive sales. He was a selectman for the towns of Aurora and Clifton and coached baseball and basketball. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and a school board member.

Her husband, Walter, died in 1965; and a son, Dallas, died in 1970. Survivors include a son, Dale of Selden; a brother, Charles of Oberlin; and a sister, Beryl Wachendorfer of Selden; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren."
