[20685] In 2007 http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/FRANKISH%20NOBILITY.htm offers: "Nibelung [I], illegitimate son of Childebrand [I] & his mistress --- ([705/20]-before 786). Fredegar names Nibelung as son of Childebrand, specifying that he was the continuator of work on the chronicle after his father died. An approximate birth date range of [705/20] is assigned to Nibelung for the purposes only of narrowing the possible birth date ranges of his supposed descendants. The cartulary of Gorze records a charter of 'Childeraud' dated 762 which is subscribed by 'Nivelungi', maybe father and son. The cartulary of Gorze records a charter which names 'Nebolungus' as benefactor of Angilramn Bishop of Metz. A charter dated to [866/75] relating to a dispute between 'Vulfaldum episcopum et Heccardum comitem' concerning land at Perrecy, heard before 'Leudo episcopus et Adelardus comes missi dominici in comitatu Augustidunense', refers to a charter 'de temporibus domni Pipini regis sive de nomen Nivelongi'."

[2087] Ralph followed Duke William, whom his father had served, to England and became an important landowner in the March of Wales after the rebellion of Earl Roger of Hereford, 1075, receiving many of the Hereford lands including the castle and town of Wigmore (thereafter the chief seat of the family). The Domesday Book indicates that Ralph was one of the richest tenants in chief in northern Herefordshire and southern Shropshire. {-Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1956 edition, 15:827} See "Medieval English Ancestors of Certain Americans," Carl Boyer III (Santa Clarita, CA, 2001), p. 166.
