[19972] Mrs. Byrd E. Miles of North Hartland, VT gave a typescript copy of her "John Kenniston - 1615 - and His Descendants" to the NEHG Society in Boston, in which she states that a Humphrey Kynaston of Stokes, living in 1520, is son of Piers Kynaston of Stokes and m. Elizabeth of Otely - their son, Sir Francis Kynaston of Otely, was Squire to King Charles I; she states that Humphrey is second son of Sir Roger Kynaston of Hardley. P. 3: "He succeeded his father as Constable of Middle Castle. He married first Marion, daughter of Meredith ap Howell of Oswald, second Elizabeth, daughter of Meredeth ap Howell of Oswaldstre. While he was tenant of Middle Castle, he led a 'riotous and dissolute life' and contracted many debts by which he earned the name 'Wild Humphrey.' He was for 'divers reasons' declared an outlaw whereupon he fled and 'sheltered himself in a card near Nescliff' which to this day is called 'Kynaston Cave.'"
