[24467] http://www.thepeerage.com/p10213.htm reports: "Sir James Stewart was the son of Sir John Stewart, Lord of Lorn and Isabel de Ergadia. He was born before 1421. He married Lady Joan Beaufort, daughter of Sir John de Beaufort, 1st Earl of Somerset and Lady Margaret de Holand, before 21 September 1439, with Papal dispensation for both consanguinity and affinity. He died circa 1448. Sir James Stewart also went by the nick-name of 'the Black Knight of Lorn'." http://home.austarnet.com.au/dfgoonan/STEWARTAthollpg.htm reports "In 1445 Henry VI, King of England granted safe passage to the Black Knight of Lorn, his son John, William Dicson II, and 20 Scotchmen to travel from Crieff to Dunstaffnage Castle. Even though he was already married to the Queen Dowager, Sir John fell in love and began an affair with the daughter of MacLaren of Ardvech."
